    Default HSAS

In all the bank and forth about Sammy on this board I have not heard HSAS mentioned much if at all. I think it's some of the best stuff he's done. Contrary to popular belief I don't hate Sammy Hagar. Do I dislike the general Van Hagar experience? YES. But that's a dead horse and this is about HSAS.

Great album and great performances especially by Sammy and legendary bad ass Neal Schon. Their version of "Whiter Shade Of Pale" is brilliant. I've referred to them as the original Chickenfoot because it was also a "supergroup" type of band. Sammy's even promoted them the same way. Anyway, for those who've never heard or seen them here are some links.

    HSAS "Top Of The Rock"

    HSAS "Valley Of The Kings"

    HSAS " Missing You"

HSAS "Hot And Dirty" (contains "classic" Sammy lyrics )

Yet you still had to let it be known didn't you? If it's a dead horse then why bring it up?

    Love HSAS!
Great band: Wish I could have seen them live..
Good album: Whiter Shade of Pale is Sam's best vocal performance until Dreams IMO.

Bitches: Recording was weird. Sounded pretty good but, they used some live stuff, then overdubbed in studio / removed some live background, etc.. WSOP sounds much different on boots.. Still good though..

Tracks chosen: They left some of the best songs off! Unbelieveably someone chose to leave off:

    1) In For the Kill
    2) Tough Enough
    3) Since You Came
    4) I forgot! Ugh - but it was good..

Anyway.. The songs left off were a hell of allot better than My Hometown and Hot & Dirty IMO..

Great disc though that gets played at least once a month in my world.. Sammy at top of his game..

Agreed. Still one of my all time favorites. I actually like the dubbed cassette version I have--which I recorded directly from my buddy's LP back in the early 80's--better than the CD version I bought much later. Something about those pops and crackles just makes it more genuine.

Somebody on the Links had the MP3s of this show for download a while back (including the songs that didn't make the record). Can't remember who it was.

I caught a Journey show a couple of years ago and Neil played the lick from "My Hometown" during a break in one of their tunes. I about jumped out of my shorts.

Totally agree. Hope & Fear was great too.

Sammy may have put his HSAS past behind him but Neal didn't.

Neils too busy with his hot new chic and Steve Perryless Journey for a return to HSAS.

I just noticed that the verse of in for the kill sounds exactly like boys night out of the never said goodbye record.
And ever since you came is an earlier version of The love Sam released on one of his later solo records.

OK. But "Valley of The Kings" is not a stand alone song.

It's actually in a 3 part suite with "Animation" and "Giza." The most prog rock Sam's ever been.

Sammy went to Egypt and wrote about it. Kind of a "Dave" move - there's more to Sam than his "red rocker" image.

Good ear Tease!.. "Boys Night Out" was decent... But not as good as "In For The Kill".. IMO..

I was really excited when I heard that Sam was reworking ESYC into "The Love" for Red Voodoo. What a dissapointment! Decent song - but can't hold a candle to original..

Thank you Fontcow for the video's!

I had never heard the extra tracks that weren't on Through The Fire until finding these videos on YouTube yesterday. The first thing that hit me when listening to "Movin' In For The Kill" was that the melody Sam is singing on the verses is "Boys Night Out". It hit my ear immediately as "that sounds very familiar"!

What is ESYC? I don't see it on the track listing for HSAS. Interested, because The Love was the first dance at my wedding. My wife was a good sport.
