Cool thread(s) jimi11580!!! Thanks for the link.

The first time I saw VH live was in 1980, on the World Invasion Tour, at the Chicago International Amphitheater.
Edward used this guitar for the entire show. I watched him like a hawk, and was taking notes on the neck positions of every song, like some sort of deranged guitar playing fan.
Okay, not like...I was...and still am!
I can't say for sure which neck was on it that night, but I'm fairly certain it was rosewood, or something at least dark, that contrasted his left hand, which I watched most of the show.

The body was definitely bone white. No stripes. Plain white.

I figured Edward was ill that night, or otherwise under the weather, because he was not his usual energetic self. He still blew the roof off the joint!

I'll dig around and see if I can find the date. My cousin may have sucky pictures, we were in the balcony.

BTW, the Dano headstock mod kinda reminds me of the elf hat.

While I appreciate the effort of making a more true reproduction of the Star guitar, I've always hated that Dano headstock. I always thought that guitar would have been better with an explorer type headstock, and never understood why he didn't do that. I just can't make myself like that guitar with the Dano neck on it.

I love that Danelectro neck. One of the easist to play, most comfortable necks out there. Kevin Dodds has a beautiful vintage one that I would love to play on. I'd want two of them...one for a replica of Eddie's black Charvel/Hondo explorer and one for a replica of the unfinished Boogie Bodies "Women In Love" intro strat!

There is some footage at vhnd, from the opening night in Fresno, March 25, 1979, of Edward playing the white star with possibly a rosewood neck with a strat type headstock.

This may be the same configuration it was in when I saw him, the night of July 29, 1980, on the World Invasion Tour. I've seen other vids of him playing a striped one in April of '80, but he used a white one in Chicago, July '80.
I'm thinking he may have had more than one star.

I just noticed that the plain white Star had two controls, and the striped Star has one.
Now I'm really thinking there was more than one Star.

If I were going to buy a Star guitar, I would get the Charvel DST-3 1H. It's cheaper and I think looks cooler with the Charvel headstock.

So here we go, feel free to post any pictures to help this thread along...

    1979

The earliest picture of the Star shows that it was originally a plain white guitar. It's on the far right...

At this point it has a standard Fender tremolo,

My thoughts exactly. Never understood why he didn't do that and never understood why Kramer didn't do that too! With 2014-17 Voyagers with the awful beak headstock practically unavailable (they appeared in very limited quantities, still not listed on the official Kramer website), here is another suggestion: classic Voyager body plus a banana headstock, much in the vein of EVH Ibanez Shark Destroyer or EVH Star.

With Van Halen releasing EVH Shark without a Floyd, releasing something like that with a Floyd Rose, more accurate headstock, and at a lower price would be huge. EVH has 5150 striped series and Kramer has a cheaper and more accurate the 84. Now EVH has Shark and Kramer... Picture for reference only but she's a beauty!
