    Default EVH 5150 III Cabinets

I received my (long backordered) 5150 2x12 cabinet last weekend. Still waiting on my 5150 III 50 watt amp, but at this point the 2x12 will suffice. I've put it in use with my 60 watt 6505 head. (was previously a 6505 1x12). The new cab really opened up the 6505. I was originally using a Orange PPC 2x12 closed back cabinet. While a great cabinet it seemed I was constantly fighting the midrang-i-ness of the Orange.

Enter the 5150 2x12 and the amp has come alive. It is very much along the lines of my Mesa 2x12 Recto cabinet in size and sound. The Recto has the Vintage 30's while the 5150 has the Celestion Heritage speakers. The 5150 thumps. It is a very focused, but musical enclosure. The workmanship of cabinet appears to be solid. Not sure about the tilt leg mechanism, but I don't normally tilt my amps.

I used it with my Soldano and it was very comparable to my Recto cabinet. I'm really impressed with how "broken in" the speakers feel right out of the box. My Recto cab is 12 years old and gets better with age. The 5150 is very close to the Recto cab right out of the box. The Orange was very tight and although it's been in constant use for the past 8 months with guitar lessons, it's still not broken in. On weekends spent away for basketball, I run my kids Rap playlist thru it, hoping one day it'll loosen up.

Once these become more readily available, I'm definitely ordering a couple more. My only niggle is the location of assembly...Vietnam. I understand the global economy, labor cost vs retail cost etc, but somehow it still feels weird.

Regardless, the cabinet is very nice. Here's hoping my 5150III amp will do the cabinet justice.

I don't think any of it is made in the US... Aren't the 100w heads built in Mexico??? I know the 50w heads and the 1x12 and 2x12 cabs are built in Vietnam. The only thing I'm not sure on is the 4x12's...

Yes, but we're talking about the current 5150 line.
