Default 2ND Leg of the Tour/What next? Who? How Big?

I wasn't a fan of Kool & the Gang, I would rather see Metallica, Black Sabbath or some other rock acts. What do you think Van Halen will do on the second leg of the tour?

Van Halen had an advantage over other rock acts when the current tour started in February because they were the only big act on the road.

Now that the Summer Concert season is upon us van halen will have to compete with other big rock tours the summer. They need to find a bigger opening act than Kymani Marley if they want the tour to be competitive in my opinion.

What do you want from Van Halen the second time around? Who do you want them to tour with? How do you want them to change it up this time around?

How about going in the exact opposite direction with Killswitch Engage? Seems that Wolf is friends with them and they have a new album coming out with their original singer? It would be just as bizarre a choice as KATG.

They are going to need to team up with some bigger acts... ala 80's bands such as Def Leppard, Kiss, Ozzy, Journey, Crue, Poison, Aerosmith, or some other rock bands that are established, like STP, Alice in Chains, to be able to keep doing arenas. Thats just the way it is....

The only bands that can still pull it off are Rush, Pearl Jam, Metallica, and U2 especially with the high ticket prices.

Maybe they should go to outdoor places and sell cheap lawn seats???

VH can still do it and in fact they are actually doing it now and in 2007-2008. I agree with the list you have of bands who can still do this but Rush plays smaller venues than vh. I also agree it would be cool to play outdoors in large amphitheatres.
Janie Liszewski did the IMPOSSIBLE she helped Eddie Van Halen get better. Deal with it.

Maybe they tour with velvet revolver when they get back together. The time frame makes sense as vh would be in Australia and Japan maybe europe in mid to late 2012 into 2013. During this time slash does his tour and they get together for us dates in early to mid 2013

Just looking at bands that are going to release albums later this year that could be in consideration are...

    ZZ Top
    Buckcherry
    Slash

Or they could go with 70's nostalgia acts like Cheap Trick (this fall after their summer tour with Aerosmith) Journey, Alice Cooper, Styx or Bad Company with Paul Rodgers.

Alterbridge now are on hiatus until 2013. Mark Tremonti tweeted around the time of Soundwave that they were trying to get some shows with VH but nothing came of it.

VH's sales are fine. The number of people who would go to a show on the strength of the opener is not that high. I doubt adding a band like Cheap Trick or Ratt is going to increase revenues enough to justify the expense.

Btw, Rush plays the same arena and sheds as Van Halen and sells quite well, even w/o an opener.
