    Default My Chickenfoot VIP Experience-Boston

    There are three
levels of the VIP Package. I had the cheapest one at $200. That got me a 7th
row seat, Chickenfoot tote bag, t-shirt, a poster, a set of picks, and a
surprise. I had to be there at 5PM to check in a get my swag. The surprise
was after everyone got their swag they took us in to watch the soundcheck.
It was so cool watching them jam. Sammy wasn't there because he saves his
voice for the show, so Mike was singing lead. They did 6 songs and they were
talking to us and goofing around in between songs. The biggest surprise of
the night is that Chad Smith was playing with them during the soundcheck. He
is not currently touring with them because he is touring with the Red Hot
Chili Peppers. He had a few days off from the the Peppers tour and decided
to surprise the band and show up at the soundcheck. The band has Kenny
Aronoff filling in for Chad, who is a fantastic drummer as well. After a
couple of songs Chad jumped off the stage and came over and said hi to us
and Aranoff took over on drums. Chad is super cool and a total lunatic! I
high fived him and told him he is one of the best drummers I have ever seen.
After they finished their first song in soundcheck none of us cheered or
clapped. Mike went up to the microphone and said, "Wow! you can hear a pin
drop in here, we must really sound like shit!" At that point everyone stood
up and cheered and Mike took a bow. It was really funny! There were only
about 20 of us in the venue, so it was really amazing watching them play in
    that environment.

Once the soundcheck was over, me and a few others had to leave. Only the
people who paid $550.00 could go backstage and meet the band. The Meet &
Greet also guaranteed you a front row seat. One of these days I'm going to
do that. At that point I had a few hours to kill, so I went down to Fanueil
Hall and got something to eat, had a few beers and watched some of the
    Celtics game.

Later on I got to my seat just in time as the show was starting. 7th row at
the Orpheum is really close to the stage because there is no 6 foot barrier
like there is at an arena show. It was the closest I had ever been at a non
club show. It was an absolute free for all down in front. There was no
security what so ever, so many people were just walking down to the front
row. After two songs I decided I'm going to do the same thing. I walked down
to the front row and as soon as I got there Sammy came over right in front
of me and I gave him a high five. Security arrived towards the end of the
show and made everyone go back to their seats, but a few minutes later I
went right back to the front. Joe Satriani threw a pick right at me and I
felt it hit me, but I couldn't find it. I was looking all over for it and a
few songs later I saw that it had stuck to my arm. It had to be 100 degrees
in there and I was covered in sweat. Sammy was putting on every shirt that
people were throwing up on stage. During the last song I took off my Cabo
Wabo shirt and threw it right at him. He didn't even notice and I ended up
grabbing it back after the show.

The best part of the show was during the encore when Chad Smith appeared at
the drums. The fill in drummer Aronoff had played the whole show up till
that point. The crowd went apeshit when the spotlight shined on Chad and he
did an awesome drum solo and finished the last four songs of the night. It
was the best show I've ever been to and worth the $200.00. The only bummer
was not being able to go backstage for the Meet & Greet, but $550.00 is a
lot of money to spend for a concert. Maybe next time!

Here is a clip of Chad from the show. He is absolutely incredible!

Dude! Thanks so much for the review...I am going tonight to the St Louis VIP and have been looking for reviews, to which there isn't much, so props for being a true fan! My wife and I have the meet and greet, so extra stoked about that...understand we can't bring cameras to the meet and greet, so hopefully they'll have a place we can put that stuff or just agree that we can hang on to it and not take pictures...I think most people can respect that. Anyways, totally looking forward to The Foot and finally meeting the guys...been a huge fan of all of them thru the years. I'm predicting another Chad appearance...RHCP is in St Louis in 2 days...that would totally rock! Thanks again for the review...got me all revved up!

St Louis was great. Despite RHCP playing here two days after the Foot, Chad did not make an appearance, but it didn't stop a fantastic show. It took almost 45 minutes to check in all the VIPer's. We got the tour of the backstage and dressing rooms which was really cool, we weren't rushed at all...Rich is really great. Got a picture with Doogie, which was another real highlight of my night...he's as big a legend as the band itself in my eyes. No sound check, not sure if the guys were running late or just wasn't planning on one. Did not do the meet and greet until the opening act when on stage and my wife and I were the first in line. In hindsight it would have been nice not to be first, in order to see the guys banter back and forth with the fans, but it was great to shake hands with all of them. I briefly talked to Joe, barely remember talking to Sam, spoke with Kenny for bit and ended up talking with Mike the longest, but we weren't in front of them for more than a minute and it was over. I could have used another minute, but understand there's other folks waiting. The show was absolutely fantastic...right in front of Joe's amps and heard every note...which made hearing the vocals tough, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. Can't believe St Louis didn't sell out. Loved hearing Rock Candy at the end too. All in all a great experience...looking forward to Cabo!

WOW! It seems you gents had a totally ace experience! They didn't do any sort of VIP packages over here, sadly - but the venues weren't seated anyway so you could get right up to the front if you were prepared to squeeze your way through the sweaty masses (which I was, of course!)

Still, it's a shame they didn't do some sort of 'meet 'n' greet' / soundcheck scenario as it sounds like you guys had a fabulous time - well played!
