I'm not sure what's surprising about this. The music for those songs is over 30 years old and there was already speculation that they had done some versions of these tracks in 2000.
    The song ain't dirty
It's really just the way we sing it

I realize that but it's interesting that those songs if not more were done at that time which answers some questions about those 2000 and 2002 sessions. And you said it yourself speculation so now it confirms that some of the music on adkot is from that time.

Luzier might have heard demos of these songs but ADKOT is all newly recorded. Kinda neat to hear other people talking now though.

I wonder if this is what Jeff meant when he said there was something specific about the tracks that they worked on that someone would notice and be able to talk about if they actually heard the tracks from 2000/2001; They were based on previous demos we've all heard?

Still, to me the most shocking thing he said was that he didn't like ADKOT at first.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Does he mean the songs had the same lyrics then as they do now or what?

What do you think of Van Halen’s comeback album ‘A Different Kind 0f Truth’?

I didn’t like it at first, but now I love it. You look forward to that next record coming out from your favorite bands. It’s been a while since I’ve had the feeling of a new Van Halen record in my hand. But it’s funny to me, because when I was in (David Lee Roth’s) band he showed me four or five songs from the new record. ‘She’s The Woman,’ ‘Tattoo’ and all those songs I heard 10 years ago. It was a trip when I heard ‘Tattoo’ on the radio, because I remember hearing it at Dave’s house. I had a grin on my face when I heard these songs now.

I wonder how many of the "new" songs on ADKOT are really (i.e. 2008 and later) new.

Songs like Stay Frosty, honeybabysweetiedoll, China Town, etc...

I know that but what is interesting is that some of the music on adkot could have been released 10 years ago. Obviously they re-recorded I would like to hear the earlier versions of some of these. Of course ed said they would leak out the demos where he and wolf said they sounded much better.

That doesn't make sense. Either Ed or Mike played bass on the 2000 - 2001 sessions. Wolf would have only been 9 - 10 years old then.

The demos that Ed/Wolf referred to must be newer tunes.

I've wondered that, too. People made a distinction early on between the redone demos and the "new" songs but it's entirely possible the new ones are old too, we just never heard them. They may not be as old as the demos but they may be from the 80s or 90s for all we know. I don't really care one way or the other and I'm still just blown away by how good the album is but it's just something I've wondered about as a curiosity, whether any songs on the album actually came from Ed having a fresh writing session just for the purposes of this album.
