Default Boston Orpheum Theater May 16

Just scored a single aisle seat in the center orchestra, about tenth row I think. Got it at the Orpheum box office. Ticket handler was super nice!

Anyone else going to this show tomorrow?

I would normally be going to this one, but I've already had Godsmack tickets in hand since a month before the Foot announced their tour.

Contemplating killing a Saturday night and going down to Mohegan.

Oh, another thing that I found very odd.

Chickenfoot price at the Orpheum: $58
    Chickenfoot price at Mohegan: $25

More seats to fill at Mohegan, I suppose. I'll also be interested to see if there is a shortened set list at the casino. After all, the casinos want you at the tables, not at the show.

Hope you enjoy. I'll probably post the set list at www.setlist.fm.

I will be there at the Orpheum show. I bought the $200 VIP Package, so I'm really looking forward to it. I've been going to concerts for 25 years and this is the first one I'll be going to by myself. None of my buddies wanted to go...normally I wouldn't want to go by myself, but I love this band too nuch to miss them. I'm going to go to the Beantown Pub close by for a couple of beers if anyone wants to meet up before the show.

The Scorpions are coming to Mohegan Sun on July 9th on their Farewell Tour. The problem is that it's a 2 hour ride to get there on a Monday night. I love the Scorps and I'll have to decide if I want to see them one last time. I may be going to that one alone too. I doubt anyone will want to head out on a Monday night.

I'm highly considering going to that Scorpions show. This will more than likely be their last show ever in New England. I just have to square away a couple of days off from work.

    I posted a set list of setlist.fm.

Set list for Chickenfoot, May 17, 2012, Boston Orpheum Theater

I thought the band was tight. It was my first time seeing Joe Satriani since 1989ish, when he opened for David Bowie at Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro, and boy was I impressed. He has a mastery over the guitar, that's for sure.

The big news of the night was that Chad Smith sat in with his own band for a four song encore. Interesting, because during the time between the first set and the encore, I saw someone really tinkering with the drum kit. The break was longer than normal. I then realized, from my 11th row seat, that the fellow in the shadows tinkering with the drum set looked like Chad. Sure enough! Sammy told Chad that it's probably the most fun he's had all year. Chad certainly brought some comic relief.

The other thing that I found so interesting was how Michael Anthony can really move around that bass guitar. After seeing him live with this band, I understand why he was never considered a stand out bassist with Van Halen. Now, I think his purpose in VH was fine. But I've not come to realize what a versatile player he is.

Chickenfoot performs "Rock Candy" with Chad Smith at the Orpheum in Boston, MA on 5/16/12.

    Chad drum solo...

    More Chad...

OK... Chad is clearly a missing element to this band... OH YEAH...

    The show was fantastic!

Chad brought a whole level of energy that was missing without him. No disrespect to Kenny, who did a killer job, but Chad takes it to another level.

Looks like we got the longest set list of the tour at 17 songs last night - Great show! Despite what the doomsayers are predicting, I think these guys are having a lot of fun and this will not be the end of the Foot. I must admit that I went out of my way to get to this show, as I thought that this might be my last opportunity to see them. After watching that encore, I think there is more to come. This band is special, but having seen them twice on the last tour Chad brings an element that none of the other guys can touch as was evident last night. The place went nuts when he sat down at the drum kit before the encore. I bought my ticket Friday and had fourth row center. Great night to be a Foot Soldier!

I gotta give Chad his due. For as great a job as Kenny did there's no denying the higher level Chad brought the show to. The whole feel of the show changed the minute he sat down.

I do think he can be an ass clown most of the time but he has a stage presence like no drummer I've ever seen. I was on awe watching him play.
