    Default Deluxe CD Release?

Any word or rumors of a new release with some addition material? I'd buy it again for one more song.

What I wish they'd do is release it as a DVD-Audio or SACD hi-res audio disc. Both the regular cd and vinyl album have their shortcomings sonically that a audiophile digital release even if it's just stereo mix specifically for the format would mostly eliminate. And the mind fairly wobbles at the thought of a true 5.1 surround remix.

I seem to recall something about a SACD release for the Japanese market....which can be purchased thru Amazon as an import....may be worth checking out.

We already got a regular edition and a deluxe edition (remember the dvd?). So I think you're asking for the extra deluxe edition.

I wish Van Halen would do a lot of things other bands have done. I've gotten spoiled as a Rush fan. Not only have we had proper remasters of the whole catalog up through 1996 but the previous album Snakes and Arrows had a deluxe edition with both 5.1 and HD 96kHz/24-bit audio formats. Then they released the 30th anniversary edition of Moving Pictures on dvd and Bluray also with 5.1 and HD stereo mixes. It's been confirmed that the upcoming album will also be available in the 96kHz/24-bit audio format and a rumored 5.1 mix. But more than that they updated their whole catalog, studio and live, through 1989 with 3 of the albums in 5.1 and all the rest will be shortly available on HDTracks.com in 96kHz/24-bit audio formats. HD stereo is just a revelation if you have a stereo to take advantage of it.

And Van Halen can't seem to even make regular remasters of the Hagar albums available. I would kill to get VH's catalog in HD stereo. Maybe after the tour if the band is stll happy they can put together a 30th anniversary edition of 1984 in HD and 5.1 or something. I haven't given up hope with VH but I wish they would make their albums available in higher quality someday. The remasters of the first 6 albums were already a great improvement to me, though.

I think you are confusing SACD with SHM-CD, or Super High Material CD which many classic albums and new releases are being put out as Japanese import CDs.

SMH-CDs are basically an improved version of a standard CD which uses higher quality, more transparent polycarbonate material that was developed for use in LCDs. It is basically the same as a "regular CD, it's just the material used to manufacture the disc supposedly allows the (data) pits to be formed more precisely, and the signal characteristics are improved as a result. Almost all Japanese import SHM-CDs use the same master encode as the "standard" CD you'd find in other countries like the USA, UK and Europe.

So for instance, the Van Halen '78 - '84 classic catalog (and ADKOT) or the Queen classic catalog which are available in Japan as SMH-CDs are the same digital transfers to disc as the US releases, it's just that the disc itself is supposedly made of better material. Having bought a few SHM-CDs and done A/B comparisons, there's really no difference in how they sound. In the case of ADKOT, a brick-walled master-for-CD sounds just as fatiguing on CD or SHM-CD. IMO, it's not worth the (usually) $40 - $70 per disc.

A true Hi-Def audio album specifically mastered for SACD, DTS-Audio or DVD-Audio disc sounds so much more dynamic, warmer and full in comparison to a regular CD. A good comparison is the recent Rush remasters or some of the now-OOP releases from Queen (Night At The Opera), Fleetwood Mac (Rumours) and Metallica (Black Album).

I'd love all of this - but I'm holding out for a package with at least one more new song and the rumored Making Of - mentioned by DLR in the YRGM accoustic video!

Maybe a live DVD along with all of the videos they've put out as part of the ADKOT promotion and whatever other vids they might still have unreleased as part of the "extras".

That's what I really want, a live DVD.

Wouldn't mind getting a live cd/dvd by the holidays from this tour and add a couple of new studio tunes on it, then hit the road again to support it.
Except make it a much better quality than RHRN which would not be too hard to do.

I am a DLR fan, but a live disc would have to include some DLR studio overdubs, I'm sorry.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Just about every band overdubs and tidies up live stuff for commercial release.

The Beatles (Live at the Hollywood Bowl, worked on in 1966 but ultimately unreleased until the 70's), KISS, Zeppelin, Frampton, The Eagles .. every major act. Obscure and cult-bands like The Grateful Dead, maybe not.

... if you listen to some sources they'll tell you that VH:LRHRN was totally recorded in the studio, I'm not sure how accurate that is. Pretty safe to say that stuff that they didn't even play on that tour like Love Walks In and stuff that they didn't even play on ANY tour like Won't Get Fooled Again were "live in the studio" sorta deals though.

I don't think anyone would have a problem with Dave touching some stuff up.

This raises a good question...is there any chance that they'll release a couple more tunes? Similar to how sometimes Japan gets songs that North America doesn't?

Didn't Hagar admit to this in his book?
I was watching RHRN a few months back, and before I switched it off, due to it's awfulness, there were several glaringly obvious moments of overdubbery.
There was one song, don't know which one, I've zero interest in that era, where there was a big "Ooooooooh" type backing vocal going on, but neither Ed nor Mike were near a microphone.

The whole damn thing was done in the studio, which for a band of Van Halen's caliber is really embarassing.

There was no need for them to do that, especially with Sam as the singer.
