    Default My Stealth Special

Ordered at Guitar Center and picked it up today. $1300 with tax. This guitar is all about the Ebony neck. Very happy with it. I thought it should be cheaper but the case it comes with is really nice. This is the hardtail version with locking nut and fine tuners.

I don't know if you've played an ebony board much but I am so happy I went back to an ebony board after playing my Wolfgang for 15 years. My old guitar I played for about 8 years before the Wolf had an ebony board and I always missed it...

Every stealth special that I've seen has been the hard tail version. Are there any floyd versions out there for sale yet??

I had the USA Stealth, but traded it for a Soldano SLO. It was a killer guitar, but I wasn't bonding with it, and it was too expensive not to 'love.' So, I think I'll pick up the special version if I can ever find one with a Floyd.

How's the binding? My USA Stealth has overspray all over it. Binding on body and headstock both have it. One of many quality control issue with mine. Luckily I really like to play it and try to overlook some small issues.

I've seen a couple stealth specials with Floyds on EBay, and I think you can order them from Musician's Friend and Guitar Center, etc.

So funny enough I was at a local guitar store buying strings today and they had one of these with the hardtail, wanted $899 for it. I asked if I could try it, and they pulled it down for me. Plugged into some Mesa that was sitting there.

Here are my thoughts, and I'm not trying to rip on it, just my opinion.

I thought it looked very cheap. I didn't think the paint job was that great, it seems like it had overspray on the sides or it didn't cure right or something. I wasn't that impressed with the neck. The frets were sharp at the ends, and I found that like some older EBMM's, that the high E was close to falling off the neck.

It played all right, the pick ups are nice, but I didn't think the quality was good at all. I was kind of surprised actually. I asked the guy if it was used or something because the paint job really had issues, and he said no. I didn't definitely would not have paid $899 for it, let alone $1,500. Hell you can make a nice guitar like that for less and just throw the Wolfgang pick ups in it.

I don't know, I shouldn't be negative, I know a lot of you guys have them and like them, and that's great. I was just disappointed.

The people at Fender must be doing something right because my sunburst EVH Wolfgang Special is in perfect condition. Just bought it from Guitar Center two weeks ago.

The Stealth Special I was going to buy right before I decided to have Scott build me mine back in October was a floyd rose version... It had to be a very early one because it was the first one I saw at any store online... I guess there must be a slight shortage of them because of moving production or something... Everything I see over at fleabay is all hardtails... Unless someone is snatching 'em up quick, I haven't seen a floyd special Stealth in months on ebay or any online store in stock...

My USA actually has a bare spot. Right around the 15th fret, low E side, center of the horn. Looked like a stray piece of cardboard. Thought it would literally blow away. Nope. Bare wood. Very small. Not sure if it's a finishing issue or they just didn't spray enough paint. Most people wouldn't notice. I do. But I bought it to be a player. I'll do worse to it! But again, quality is lacking. If I was looking for a a perfect maple top, top of the line guitar, I'd be pissed. I was a little. Lot of money for theses things. But it's fund to play and I'm glad I kept it. Almost returned it. Set up was so sub par. D-tuna was out, in E. intonation was a mile off. I gotta stop...
