    Default Two stupid questions

    Please bare with me,
    1. Why is there so much distance between the fans & the stage?

    2. Has anyone seen Eddie or Wolfie throw any picks during their performance?

    1. I'm assuming security issues. I know one fan managed to get on stage last tour and hugged Eddie (and was promptly escorted away). Godforbid it should even enter my mind, we don't need another Dimebag incident.

    2. I was up close at the Boston show. Now that I think about it, Ed threw a couple, but nowhere near as many as he has in years past. Wolf was on the opposite side of the stage to where I was sitting. Didn't notice any picks tossed from him.

Thanks for replys. I didn't know about the fan hugging Eddie issue last tour. Good call
I was second row in Atlanta in front of Eddie and didn't see him or Wolf toss any. No biggie just was wondering. I had heard someone say Eddie was getting tired of seeing people putting them on eBay not sure if that's just that guys opinion.

Regarding picks, I was 3rd Row right in front of Ed at Charlotte and he did not throw any picks that I saw during the show until Jump. There was a guy to my left that had a little hand-written sign a that said Guitar Picks. Ed saw it and threw two picks in the general direction of the guy. To my knowledge and from what I saw, no one caught either one. There were a few guys searching the floor under the seats for them. After the lights went up, there were maybe six or so people still looking for them hidden in the confetti; but, the Arena Workers and Security were very quick to empty the area as they started picking up chairs within about 2 minutes from the last bow from the band. They ran everyone off pretty quick. They had to turn the arena around for a NBA game the next night, I guess.

    Default Got me one.

I was front row in Boston. Ed does not toss many out there. During ATBL, a casual flip sent people around in a frenzy. Everybody was hunting even peeps in the 2nd row were trying to climb near the barricade. The security guy was trying to find it with me. No luck. Jump plays, confetti and I pretty much resign myself to the fact it ain't happenin'. Show over. This guy in the second row climbs over and says...I think it's somewhere amidst the paper shards in front of me behind the barrier. I look and keep looking. Suddenly, a few of the piece shift and there it is. The security guy catches my eye and here it sits.

After paying and getting front row this year, I was pretty dissappointed. Obviously the kid was able to jump up on the catwalk.

But having 8-10 feet is overkill. I remember there being about 1-2 feet for 1 tour, and zero feet for another (back in the day).

8-10 is ridiculous...but obviously they can get away with it.
    Right here I say....

At the Detroit show Ed threw several at a couple of fans over by the catwalk a couple of times. They landed on the floor between the stage and barricade and the fans could not quite reach them. They were pleading with security to just hand them the pick and they would not do it. I have been to many concerts at The Palace over the years and one thing seems to be becoming a trend there. Security there is pretty much a bunch of assess a lot of the time. Both the main security coming in and the hired for the night at the barricades. I have been to many other arenas and stadiums where security was very pleasant. So it is a noticable difference at The Palace. It is an I'm going to be a jerk to you because I can kind of mentality there. I have no idea why.

Sort off and on topic. The above situation made me think of a very similiar one many years ago. I was at a U2 concert and a fan near me on the barricade had a sign asking Edge (U2's guitarist) for a pick. Edge saw it and thew a pick right at him. It landed on the floor between the stage and barricade right in front of him and he could not reach it just like above. Security would not let him reach down for it. The security guy said I will hand it to you after the show. Show ends, security guy picks it up and walks off with it for himself. Talk about shitty! I hope those fans at the Detroit VH did not experience the same type of thing.

One of Eddies picks landed between the stage and the barricade at the Detroit (Auburn Hills) show (close to the barricade), but because of the height of the barricade, you can't lean over and get it. The security guy (I believe his name was Jeff), spotted it and put his foot on top of it. During a period where the lights were dim, he reached down and picked it up and put it in his pocket. It ended up not being as bad as it sounds though, because at the end of the show, he gave it to the people next to me. They got the pick, I got a photo of it laying on the floor out of reach.

funny you should mention the dimebag thing because at the nashville show there was absolutely no security check when entering the arena, i couldnt believe that they did not even have a metal detector, anyboy could have gotten in there with anything.
I used to wonder why he was grinning all the time(Michael Ian Black talkin about EVH on VH1 I love the 80's) but then i realized the reason he's grinning is because he's Eddie F*#king Van Halen

Went to see Black Keys in Austin two weeks ago. All they did was just take your ticket. Absolutely zero security whatsoever.

It depends on the venue. In 2008, I saw VH in San Antonio -- same thing -- just walk right in, no security check at all -- no pat down, nothing. But two nights later in Dallas, full-blown airport level metal detectors and wands.

I was disappointed to see the monster security guard in a suit coat from 07' was not back for this tour. He was nicknamed "NFA" (Not F-ing Around). The guy always had that look like he was ready to rip someones head off and punt it 50 yards. Clearly he was not on that side of the stage when that clown ran up. You can see him behind Roth at about 14 seconds in....
