    Esquire exclusive.

At the Esquire photo shoot. I posted three new videos, including WVH playing Eruption on bass.

NICE, Wolf should grab a guitar and do that at the last date on the tour or something. Epic moment waiting to happen.

Imagine a world without Eddie Van Halen.

"From the moment David Lee Roth appeared at the top of a giant runway that snaked through the Oklahoma City Ford Center audience Tuesday night, he wore the one thing that told every Van Halen fan that everything was right with the world. It was a maniacal Cheshire cat smile announcing happiness and enthusiasm that cannot be faked. Not only was the old band back together, it was thriving."

Most difficult to get bass strings to move like that. Very impressive.

Haha, I'll be that douche bag. I'm sure he was just fooling around, not really trying to impress anyone. A fun trick to play in front of dad, with the twist being that it was on bass. That end section of Eruption is one of the easiest things you could ever learn. Someone who has never picked up a guitar before could pick one up today, and myself or one of 20 other people from the vhlinks guitar room could have them slowly playing the essentials of the end of Eruption at the very first lesson. Then just go home and keep practicing the note progression, speeding it up little by little, and within a month or two you could do it almost flawlessly. Of course you could do nothing else on guitar and not have an ounce of music theory, but at least you could play the end of Eruption. Now the *beginning* of Eruption, that might take you 5 or so years to really digest and work up to speed.

I did the end of Eruption on a bass once just to see if my fingers could take it, and it was a little more difficult on bass strings but not by much. I was using a short scale Ibanez bass and Wolfgang's bass is also a short scale I believe.

Apart from this parlor trick tomfoolery, I would really love to see and hear if he can nail some of the old man's guitar parts. I mean come on, all that time around the house with dear old dad coaching and he would have to be able to really nail some of that stuff on guitar. It would be wild to see him just sit there and bang off the intro to Mean Street for instance.

Honestly, it's not really that bad on the G string of a bass. If you play guitar (not sure) just fool around and do the note sequence of the end of Eruption on the low E string of your guitar. Don't even worry about the key, just place your hands in the same position on the fretboard you normally would do.

You guys must have good ears I can barely even hear it.

The tapping part at the end of Eruption is probably the easiest thing in that song. Not being a dick, just saying. If he could do the intro on bass, I'd be like WTF!
