Almost certainly had to be an early 1980's Lamborghini Countach with a V12 engine. This was THE sports car the big boys had back in the day. Went for around $100K brand new, $60K to $80K range now for that vintage. There was also a V8 Jalpa model back then but that car was almost unknown compared to the Countach.

I sat in one of these briefly at a car show back then. It was like being in a cramped torture chamber and there was no visibility in any direction. If you are of average height, the roof is about at your stomach when standing. I can't even imagine driving one on a public street. Still, after the house is paid off...

I knew about the Jalpa!!! well I don't know man cause both reved up sound very mean and beefy and Ed's sound almost snake like with this rediculous jet whine as well.... Which the countach has a bit of but its not right I will dig some more

    1978 LAMBORGHINI Countach LP400S
    Chassis #1121010
    Engine #
    Prod. #6

Prod. #6 in black/tan with Silver wheels, was not delivered till late 1979, to first owner Bud Romak (who also owned Miura SV #4954) of California, USA.

Around 1985 Romak sold #1121010 to Ex-Eddie Van Halen. Silver wheels.

Today the car is in Japan.

The Lamborghini LM002 is an SUV that was built by the Lamborghini automobile company between 1986 and 1993.
•Musician Eddie Van Halen supposedly owned a black LM002 during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The summer saw the release of 1984's third single "Panama", which featured a heavy guitar riff reminiscent of Van Halen's earlier work (the engine noise was from Eddie revving up his Lamborghini, with microphones being used near the tailpipes).

    Really? Learn something new everyday...

I always thought this sound effect was done by Dave doing his motorcycle microphone thingy... which is quite effective as well. Could anyone supply a another source for this info? Thanks ('',)v

Apparently, these 2 Lambo's were Eddie's at one point in time....

I got the pics from Google, which were posted at the Classic Van Halen website (I think)...

That second Lambo might not be British... It could be an Aussie... Our steering wheels are on the same side... Maybe, that's why Ed sold it...

Great 60 Minutes spot on the Countach from back in '87. If you can make it through the boring parts, the footage with the Italian test driver blasting through the countryside is worth it. You can also see the preferred method of backing up in this car (opening the door and sitting on the gigantic door sill).

Wow Tommy, I can't imagine you fitting inside that car at 6' 2". I'm 5' 10" and I was really crammed in there. These are made for males with a more Italian dimension, and Ed being around 5' 8" probably fit in pretty well.

We knew the revving sound was from Ed's Lamborghini not too long after the album was released. I always found it hilarious when that blow dryer was aimed at Ed during one of the revs in the video.

Ive seen that 60 minutes spot many times....very cool.

Had a poster of that car on my wall as a kid. Who would of thought that the Mustang of today can easily give it a run for its money for 30k. Still rather have the lambo tho

Could it have been the Lambo Valerie bought Ed as a gift in the early 80's? Or was that a Ferrari she bought him?

Easily the most gorgeous car ever designed in my book. Even moreso than the 911 for me. The new Gallardo has pretty nice lines too, but the Countach was somehting un-Earthly.
