Default 2012 VH "A Different Kind of Truth" tour attendance information

I apologize for making a new thread on this subject; however, we've done some research in the tour sales thread, and personally, I feel like this might be of interest to many Van Halen fans.

Official VH concert attendance statistics have yet to be released, (at least from what I can discern.)

The VH concert attendance information below is based on attendance assessments by VH concert-going music journalists, who have published in major newspapers, (e.g. "sold-out," or "near capacity," or "9,000 fans in attendance.") Please correct this information if you find other information that contradicts the information here, or else if you went to a show, and the info here seems off.

    * = near-capacity, i.e. between 80% capacity and SOLD-OUT
    ** = between 60% capacity and 80% capacity

    1. Louisville, Kentucky -- SOLD OUT, published

    2. Detroit, Michigan -- SOLD-OUT, published

    * 3. Indianapolis, Indiana -- not sold-out, published (near capacity)

    * 4. Chicago, Illinois -- not sold-out, published (near capacity)

    5. New York, New York -- SOLD-OUT, published

    6. New York, New York -- SOLD-OUT, published

    7. Mohegan Sun Casino, Connecticut -- SOLD-OUT, published

    8. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -- SOLD-OUT, published

    9. Buffalo, New York -- SOLD-OUT, published

    10. Boston, Massachusetts -- SOLD-OUT, published

    * 11. Manchester, New Hampshire, the tour's 1st added date -- not sold-out, "near-capacity crowd," published. (I personally attended this show. The floor and "cheap seats" were SOLD-OUT. The "center ice seats" were about 50% sold-out; however, guards prevented people from moving to them. 50% of crowd under 35 yrs old vs. Mohegan.)

** 11. Montreal, Quebec, Canada -- not sold-out, published. Between 9,000-10,000 according to Montreal Gazette. Centre Bell holds 15,000 for concerts.

    12. Toronto, Ontario, Canada -- SOLD-OUT, published. (14,500 qualifies as a sell-out for a concert at Air Canada Centre.)

** 13. Ottawa, Ontario, Canada -- not sold-out, published. Reportedly 10,500 at a 14,000 seat concert hall, (Scotiabank Place holds approx. 19,100 for hockey.)

    14. Atlantic City, New Jersey -- SOLD-OUT, published

    15. Washington, D.C. -- SOLD-OUT, published

    16. Reading, Pennsylvania, (the tour's 2nd added date) -- SOLD-OUT; not published, but reported by fans who attended.

    17. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania -- SOLD-OUT; not published, but reported by fans who were there.

    18. Rosemont, Illinois -- SOLD-OUT, published.

    Total, of 18 shows:
    -- 13/18 SOLD-OUT
    -- 3/5 near capacity (i.e. between 80% capacity-SOLD-OUT)
    -- 2/5 between 60%-80% attended

P.S. Personally, I was unable to find published information regarding concert attendance in Pittsburgh or Reading, PA; however, several attendees of those concerts provided information -- and even videos -- which lead me to believe that the shows were sold-out, or very, very close to...

    They

They filled the rafters in Pittsburgh. Even the high and far nosebleeders. Nice sight.

i don't know if i saw any empty seats in Rosemont the other night. if there was, it wasn't many at all. i keep thinking to myself the last few months though, if they got a real rock band like Alice In Chains and made the ticket prices more reasonable in this recession or whatever it's called, i fell like they could sell out basically every night of the tour. they've done so well with Ki Mani Marley last tour, and now Kool...imagine with a legit opener like they had in 91.

I was in for the Greensboro show in'07 and I'm pretty sure it was sold out. Greensboro has always been a big VH draw and I don't expect anything less this time around. And yes, I will be in attendance! By the way, where are y'all meeting?

I don't think 4/1 was sold out because there were many tickets on Ticketmaster the day of the show and I heard that in the upper level they were handing out free upgrades to lower bowl, 100 level.

Aside from the two PA reviews that didn't mention attendance, the two Chi-town area gigs -- Allstate and Rosemont -- both have reputable reviewers giving conflicting information re: attendance at both shows, e.g. one says "SOLD-OUT" (Greg Kot, Chicago Tribune); another says "near capacity crowd."

I wish I was still in college, and could've gotten a press pass via the Daily Northwestern (Evanston college paper).

I trust your eyes more than I trust Greg "every Wilco album reinvents music" Kot's about either VH gig, to be honest.

They don't hand out upgrades to sold out shows.

This thread is pure conjecture. You can't go by anecdotal reviews - especially from super fans- or newspaper reviews either.

Wait for the box scores. This is jumping the gun in a BIG way.

The only REAL sellouts have been the MSG shows and Boston most likely. I've been following shows on ticketmaster and there have always been lots of seats available.

There's no shame in that as these are mostly big venues. Very few arena shows are true sellouts any more.

It's the ticket prices--and the ticket prices only--that are holding people back from attending. The cheap seats sell out quickly and the $165 seats labor along. The fact that they have $165 seats on the floor at the back of the arena (the worst seats possible IMO) is a mistake.

I know there are a few people that were willing to go but decided not to when I told them the price. I don't blame them, though. If I wasn't a VH Superfan there's no way I would spend a chunk of my weekly paycheck on a band I was just a casual fan of. If they did a summer shed tour and had prices in that range it would sell out easy. However, I'm sure they make more coin by doing arena gigs even if they are just partial sell outs, so bully for them.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Selling them at $165 and having a few empty seats makes money cash than selling out of $60 seats.
