    Default Sales for the tour

Any idea how the tour is doing from a sales standpoint? Are they selling out?

I remember reading a post where someone said if they did more promotion, that'd help sales... TO read it as meaning the tour sales might be soft?

Sales are strong but not unbelievable....and the way Ticketmaster fucks with people theirs no way of knowing....for example...supposedly D.C. Was sold out but a handful of tickets became available in the last few days... I don't know why ticketshiester does this...I thinks it's unfair to fans.....we looked online when they went on sale to no avail only to find a plethora of tix available days within event date...artists such as Springsteen and Madonna sell out immedielty... But given the press and appearances that VH themselves do...I think they and Us should be greatful

I am in this tour for $4,000 if that helps - not including swag, booze, etc.

Yeah, I am not sure how it works, but the DC show was sold out almost immediately, and then there was a bunch of tickets available a few days before.

I know for a fact the the fucking floor was sold out when they went on sales at 10:00am, but a few days before the show there were a bunch available.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

A lot of shows are sold out, but yes there are plenty of shows with seats available. I believe the issue is the premium price of $162 for tickets that really are not that great.

$162 for great seats is 1 thing, but for seats very far away at an angle it is amazing they are selling that many of them.

I think had the tix been priced appropriately they would sell out everywhere. Pittsburgh sold out the seats less than $162 in a minute, and had about 1000 crappy $162 seats for sale for months. They were not good seats. Maybe worth $60.
    Right here I say....

    I so strongly agree

they sold quite a few nosebleeders in PGH but had some empty lowers. They could have cut those people a break and moved them closer. Very fishy getting tickets to this tour, McCartney, Kiss and Rush were much more straightforward. A disappointment. I want to get closer if they return to PA or Ohio.

By now everybody should know how it works.

I've been beating this drum here for 5 years.

Tickets go onsale. The diehards rush to ticketmaster, and snap up whatever they are offered, even if it's crap. Other die hards buy the "VIP" tickets.

Now that the promoters have gotten rid of the mediocre seats, they can spend the next couple of months trying to sell the good ones via VIP, Platinum, Stubhub, or whatever other shady method they can come up with.

But, since the die hards have already bought their mid floor or rear lower level tickets or splurged for the initial VIP tickets (as they are terrified of being shut out of supposedly "sold out" shows), these premium tickets move slowly.

So, they eventually release the best seats at face value.

This happens at every Van Halen show. It's why I always get 10th row or better tickets for face value. It's why I did it 7 times on the last tour, and 4 times this tour, while some guys are paying $500 a ticket in AC to do the same thing (stay frosty buddy ).

If you want to change this, you need to stop buying crappy tickets the day they go on sale. You are playing their game.

Very few bands are actually going to sell out an arena show. Bruce Springsteen in big markets is one. He's about all I can think of now, besides a Floyd or Zep reunion. The rest will all play out just like Van Halen.

As far as this tour goes, I think in the end it will gross slightly less than the last one, unless they come back for another leg. They are playing fewer shows and selling fewer tickets, but the tickets are more expensive. We'll see how it shakes out.

We certainly didn't have any shows that sold as poorly as Manchester last time around. The thrill of the reunion is over (that's what was driving tickets in 2007), and at these prices many casual fans don't need to see it again. The mixed reviews for the tour (Dave's voice in particular) may not be helping, but I don't that's a key factor. The reunion thing is played out and at $162 for nosebleeds in many markets, this just isn't a must-see for many people. For sure we are seeing far more empty seats this time around than last time.

Just an FYI regarding Springsteen and ticket sales - their organization almost always holds back a number of tickets until the day of the show, usually a mix of Floor GAs and fair to good reserved Loges. It's been (his) policy for literally decades, mostly in part to thwart scalping. It's also why Springsteen has almost always had the entire floor General Admission standing only for all the E Street Band tours in the USA in arenas since '99. Every Springsteen E Street Band show I've seen since '99, I've picked up a GA ticket the day of the show either from the box office or some hapless soul in the parking lot trying to unload his GA tickets usually well below face value.

At last night's show, it seemed pretty packed but in between Kool and The Gang and VH security guys went around and upgraded that last two rows in the 200 section up to the 100 section at no charge. He just swapped out their tickets because he said they "need to fill up the lower section".

crazy levi- just curious, when you did buy: 1) how long did you wait before the show, and 2) what avenue did you use to get seats so close?

MSG1 - bought a couple weeks before the show. $275 for 12th row on the floor. Platinum seats that dropped in price from around $450. Still a little more than I like to pay but MSG is a huge tight market. Bought 4 tickets (me and friends). Scored a 2nd row center the morning of the show, which I scalped.

MSG2 - 8th row dead center. Bought a single, day of the show around 1pm on ticketmaster.

Philly - could have bought a 15th row or better floor seat anytime from about 3 weeks before the show on. THey were sitting there from comcast tix (official seller) Already had luxury suite tickets which is where I wanted to be for that show.

Reading - Could tell early on this would be a bloodbath. From the time I started looking - about 3 weeks before showtime - there were 15th floor and better tickets just sitting there on ticketmaster. Also tons of platinum seats and prices kept dropping. Once 3rd row center came up for $190 each, I pulled the trigger on two (for a friend and myself). This was about 2 weeks before showtime. A week before showtime, 2nd row center dropped...like a whole row.

It's really not that complicated. Be patient. Dont buy seats you don't want. Check ticketmaster all the time. It's really that simple.

And unless you NEED to be front row and are willing to pay $900 or whatever for it, avoid the VIP tickets. They are bullshit. The "added value" stuff is all worthless, and a week before showtime all the unsold VIP tickets go on ticketmaster. Everytime.

The official stats have not been released yet, but this following info has been reported in each city's major newspaper (i.e. in each city's live music reviews.)

    1. Louisville, Kentucky -- SOLD OUT
    2. Detroit, Michigan -- SOLD-OUT
    3. Indianapolis, Indiana -- not sold-out
    4. Chicago, Illinois -- not sold-out; near capacity (I found this surprising, personally. Fortunately, gigs in NYC, Boston and Philadelphia sold-out.)
    5. New York, New York -- SOLD-OUT
    6. New York, New York -- SOLD-OUT
    7. Mohegan Sun Casino, Connecticut --SOLD-OUT
    8. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -- SOLD-OUT
    9. Buffalo, New York -- SOLD-OUT
    10. Boston, Massachusetts -- SOLD-OUT
    11. Manchester, New Hampshire (tour's 1st added date) -- not sold out, but near capacity (80% or so, in my personal opinion, having attended)
    11. Montreal, Quebec, Canada -- not sold-out; near capacity
    12. Toronto, Ontario, Canada -- not sold-out; near capacity
    13. Ottawa, Ontario, Canada -- not sold-out; NOT anywhere near capacity - most poorly attended show of the ADKoT tour thus far.
    14. Atlantic City, New Jersey -- SOLD-OUT
    15. Washington, D.C. -- SOLD-OUT
    16. Reading, Pennsylvania (tour's 2nd added date) -- not sold-out, not near capacity
    16. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania -- not sold-out, not near capacity
    17. Rosemont, Illinois -- SOLD-OUT

Of 17 shows thus far on the ADKoT Tour thus far, 11 have have officially SOLD-OUT; 4 attracted "near capacity" crowds (i.e. <80% capacity); 3 were not sold-out... Only Ottawa was reported as being poorly attended; however, Pittsburgh might have been as well.

I have to disagree about Pittsburgh. I was in the upper deck opposite the stage and could see pretty much the whole building. I didnt see any groups of empties. It looked packed. More packed than the 08 show .

I disagree on Pittsburgh also. There was only like 500 tickets available the last month of the show using ticketmasters seat finder. Even at the end when more popped up, there wasn't more than 500. The place seemed pretty full to me, all lowers and most uppers looked filled.
    Right here I say....
