Default Guitar chops: Adkot vs F.u.c.k

I love that Ed is bringing his A game on the new disc. The chops he displayed on For Unlawful.... Were pretty sick. For all out shredding which one has more meat and potatoes? The solos from pleasure dome and dream is over are some his best ever.

Definitely ADKOT. The solo's are more ferocious. Leans more towards the classic era.

Agreed. The solos feel like the early albums to me. Fire and passion.

F.U.C.K. is my favorite Sammy record by far...but because the songs are so good. Eddies solos stopped being interesting to me after DD really.

Hello 2012 class, and welcome to Revisionist History 101, your professor will be Edward L. Van Halen. First lesson, F.U.C.K. does not exist therefore there are no guitar chops on it. The band went from 1984 straight to A.D.K.O.T.

    F.U.C.K.

I don't think his playing was, or ever will be better than it was in the timeframe of 91-96.

you really think Ed's playing was best from 91-96? pbbbbt
I can't think of any solo spot or rhythms from that time period that stand over Girl Gone Bad, Sinners Swing, Light Up The Sky, Hang Em High, etc.

    Default Chops champ??

When I started this thread I thought that the new disc had it for sure, since I have been listening to it over and over. However, the more I'm listening to For Unlawful, the more I would have to give it the nod for chops. Case in Point: Pleasure Dome...holy crap!!! But I give the new disc the nod for overall production and guitar tone. Fuck was too low end and it seems like the Balance production was what they were trying for with Fuck. Seventh seal compared to poundcake...very similar with a much better production.

Can't really say one's better than the other yet.....I have to live with the new album longer....you're comparing an album 22 years old to album a few months old. That being said, nothing compares to his playing on the first six albums period.

If I had to choose I'd say ADKOT....only because it has a more classic feel to it. Technically, I'm certain his playing was better on F.U.C.K. only because he was considerably younger and healthier.

Pleasure Dome is as good in every aspect as anything that came from the "six pack"... It's a well written song that is a bit outside the box for them and they knocked it out of the park and then some... It's dark and melodic, very progressive yet musical... I could go on and on... Definitely my favorite tune off any Sammy era studio album...
