Exactly. It's the kill switch. He uses it in the You Really Got Me solo, and he's been using it at the beginning of his concert solos.
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

"A lot of bands mature, which means they get square; they start delivering messages. Hey, you got a message, use Western Union." -DLR

I thought the red button was the kill switch to end the band as we know it if Ed suddenly decides he's had enough.

It rapidly changes between the three VH singers as he taps it...

I thought it was hooked to a collar that Dave is wearing... When Dave gets too "flamboyant" or starts singing shitty, Ed presses it and it shocks him... Apparently the red button is broken...

It is very minimalized for Al. He still doesn't use the gong, the extra two bass drums (who needs four bass drums except for the sheer audacious absurdity of being a rock star? ), or the octobans, so if he could get rid of those he'd have only what he needs. That's why I was so impressed with the Café Wha? kit: basic 5-piece with hi-hats and 3-4 cymbals. Heck, he didn't even have a cowbell and used a metal pipe behind him on stage from the plumbing in the bar for "Dance The Night Away". Yet it still sounded like Al and Van Halen. Sometimes a little is enough.

I did notice DLR's hair is getting a bit frizzy.

I have to admit that Ed's playing on this album is phenominal. I was expecting it to be EVH-good, not EVH-outstanding like it is.

As for Al's drum kit, it does sound to me to be very minimal on the album. Really good, just minimal. I wonder if it is a back-to-basics approach or if there is another reason. Or, perhaps my ears can't friggin' hear... Any of the above is possible.

No drum expert here but he sounds as good as ever on the album. Great lower end on the whole thing.
Live I would assume he is steady as ever..
Just weird not to have any graphics, pic's or flash compared to previous..

Seems like when Ed is focused for a new tour, he wants everything as minimal as can be (5150 stage, Balance stage, and this one).

This is why Eddie hasn't used it yet, and it is the only thing in the known universe Chuck Norris will not touch...
