I had a boot of a 1988 show that they played this at. Poor quality audio though.

So, does this mean Dave might sing BOBW this tour?
A little more volume in the headphones please.

Most 1988 boots are not too great sounding.
The Japan 89 show is the best from that album.

That's a song that really needs Dave's vocals.

I'm waiting for Rothtards to reconcile their two arguments:

Sammy sounded shitty singing Dave songs!

Sammy didn't sing enough Dave songs!

Sammy handles it vocally but it doesn't have the swagger of Dave.

Being a little facetious in above post. RWTD is my all time favorite VH song. Sammy singing it just sounds too different. Granted he can hit the notes, but...just different!
A little more volume in the headphones please.

None of the CVH songs ever sounded good with Sam. Even back in the day when LWAN came out I skipped the CVH songs. I'm a huge fan of the Van Hagar years but his voice on Dave's songs didn't work at all.

The entire feel of this RWTD is lost with Sam singing. That sucked pretty bad.

I believe it was Pittsburgh. I believe I have that boot as well.

Was cool because on the recording when the bass comes in at the beginning somebody in the audience, next to the recorder, says, "Whoa.....Runnin with the Devil?!?".

I thought Sam did a decent job with Runnin' with the Devil. I saw a few shows from each of the Sammy-fronted VH tours and was always pining for him to sing more of the classic VH songs than he did. The setlists were getting stale by the RHRN tour and even Sammy belting out Unchained back then was like hearing a holy grail b-side (like hearing HAIL played live now).

In hindsight, I wish he would have sang more of the Roth's songs and he probably would have done himself a service by looking like he gave a shit while he was singing them. I didn't expect him to go all out like Brian Johnson does singing Bon Scott's songs (different situation because Scott died) but some willingness to sing a previous singers' songs like Bruce Dickinson does with Paul Di'Anno would have been nice. I don't completely blame Sammy for not being pumped to play the Dave era as he was in the middle of a massive Eddie vs Dave shitstorm for 10 years. And, as his book proved, he has a pretty healthy ego. It would have been cool, though.

Again, that's all hindsight as far as I'm concerned. VH '12, VHI - 1984, 5150 - Balance, Dave solo, Sammy solo (pre and post), Chickenfoot are all good in my book.

I agree about RWTD, but this is the best live version of Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love I have ever heard.

No way I can call a Sam version the best ever. It's just not the same song with him singing.
