    Default Kool and the Gang

I'm still very surprised they selected Kool and the Gang, but I understand David's thought process to start the show with an upbeat band. For those of you that have already seen the show how has Kool and the Gang been received? I've heard very little which makes me think everyone has been okay with them.

It's all good...they are fun to listen to.
I used their 45 min set to warm up with some beers and take some bathroom breaks prior to the big show.
By the end of the set..the crowd was dancing and singing "Celebration"....in a great mood for the real reason they came VH!
Finally trying to pick up guitar after too many years.

In Louisville they were up and dancing for KATG

I agree. By the end of their set everyone was on their feet. They were EXTREMELY tight and well rehearsed, lots of fun, very funky, and just plain fun.
    Hit the ground running...

We came through blood and fire...

"I aim to misbehave." - Captain Malcolm Reynolds: Firefly

Proud fan of BOTH major eras of Van Halen. Yes, we do exist.

"Men never commit evil so fully and joyfuly as when they do it for religious convictions"-- Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)

The Sass Jordan version of Van Halen was the best...

Yep, I loved KandG. Would much rather hear a funky , fun band like this then some mediocre rock band that I have no interest in listening to. This was an awesome choice by DLR.

Yep, great choice! I enjoyed them WAY more than some 2nd-tier rock act like Ratt or Dokken.

Note: I am no big KandG fanatic

BUT! I am so happy they went with an upbeat band like them instead of some Screaming new-age rock band that most the kids listen to today.

Absolutely agree with all the positive comments about KATG, they were excellent in Boston! It shouldn't work, but, it really does!

Whats so bad with Ratt ? They released a cd last year and it was good.

Went to both MSG shows.. I saw the tail end of Kool at the first one.. For the second show I went in for the entire show to see how their show was.
They were excellent.. If you are looking for a good time, go see them.. I cant beleive how many hits they had..

I'm on board with KATG opening. I think it's a great idea to have a non-rock act open for VH. The only time I actually enjoyed a rock opening band was back when Van Halen opened for Black Sabbath.

The problem with Ratt is Stephen Pearcy. As a live singer, he makes DLR sound like Pavarotti.

As punk5150 wrote, Infestation is a really good CD, worth the cost just to listen to DeMartini.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

That statement is so true..... LOL.. I have seen Ratt at least 20 times and everytime I go I always wonder what they see in Pearcy. He is brutal live..
Jizzy Pearl was a good replacement but he just never fit in with the band.

Warren D.... The only reason to go.. He is so smooth and just smokes on the classic Ratt n Roll songs.
