We need to never forget, for the sake of the children, the suffering we were subjected to that night. God, that was fucking awful. The master tape needs to be put in a crate and buried next to the Ark of the Covenant in that huge warehouse never to be seen again. Fuck. Man, that sucked.

    There, I've done my part.

I would like to exclude the rhythm guitarist of VR though...he was playing a Frankenstein guitar and seemed to be actually trying not to suck.

That got a laugh out of me.

Oh hells yes! They would mean it when they made a speech!
That's true, only the intro to ATBL was cringe-worthy. The rest was at least acceptable. I think watching Wieland's Jagger/chicken-on-cocaine hybrid impression was what made that seem worse than what it was.

Ha! Agreed. I know lead singers are generally weird people, but his thing is more giggle-inducing than cool.

It's only fitting that Velvet Revolver imploded not long after this dreadful performance. The Van Halen curse at work perhaps?
Wolfgang did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

My brain wants to think the public saw that performance and thought, "Wow...these guys suck!"

They don't get off of whatever they are addicted to until THEY really decide to do it. It wasn't until after the tour postponement for his mystery medical condition that he began to come back strong and perhaps sober during the '08 leg. It was also mentioned that perhaps he had some work done on his wrist during that postponement but there didn't seem to be enough of a break in the tour for that. The wrist surgery seems to have been performed well after the tour had wrapped up, and perhaps we are now seeing the benefits of both sobriety and the wrist surgery.
Not as a push to the book or author on here, but if you happen to have time, take a stab at reading the EVH Biography (you can get it from the VH Store, B&N, etc). It is truly about Eddie, but it covers most of everything you can read on here. Based on all that, it is a damn good read for the long time fan

I could tell that my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio.

In my opinion, this time period involved one of the best decisions ever being made with Eddie going into rehab. He was on the razors edge for a while and was one cut away from bleeding out.
