    Default Wolfgang's Basses

Curious... This tour and last, the basses Wolfgang plays are a bass version of the Wolfgang guitar. Are these made in the Fender Custom Shop? Who's striping them? Will there be a Wolfgang bass model in addition to the EVH guitars?

I play a little bass. It's my third instrument after Guitar and Drums. I don't really want a wolfgang guitar because I'm set as far as guitars are concerned, but a bass I could definitely dig.

Does anybody know what his bass rig is? I think I saw an 8-10 inch cab and some other cabs with some 15's and I thought I saw some 12's. Don't know what the heads are. Anyway, quite a set-up.

he has a new fender head called a super bassman. looks a lot like an svt classic. he runs that thru a 8x10 and 2x15, then blends in some 5150III cleans with a 4x12. got a chance to see at their rehearsals and at the friends/family show. sounds good, and way better than the last tour. almost has that ampeg thing going on. chris canella told me he is the first one touring with the super bassman amp.

I think Wolf need to talk to Bass Player (or some other publication) and give fans the scoop on what he's using, how it happened, etc. I can't see that an EVH Wolfgang Bass is going to come out anytime soon, but with the power the brand has, it would definitely fly off the shelves.
If I told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth about what I've gone through over the last 20 odd years, what it took to finally get where I am, people just wouldn't fucking believe it. So it's pointless. I now realize that I can't change people's minds, and I really don't want to or need to try. I'm at peace with it, and that's all that matters. - Edward Van Halen

I want a Wolfgang bass, and I don't even play bass.

They look great and sound great.

Didn't Wolfgang just play Fender Jazz basses (well, I'm sure they were anything but a standard Fender Jazz bass but the body looks like one, at least, since the headstock didn't have "Fender" on it) but striped on the 2007-2008 tour? I think the new Wolfgang-style bass made its debut at the Café Wha? show.

    Brilliant pics!

Yeah he used what he called in Guitar Player a "Frankenbass", that was originally that red one. He had a back-up made, asked it to be blue, bam, there's his bass. It definitely looks like a jazz bass, although I immediately thought Charvel when I saw those back in 2006 - I thought he might follow in Ed's footsteps.

What I find weird is that the bass has two inputs - a Strat style jack and a normal horizontal jack on the control plate. In those pics it looks like he uses both at different times.

Damn Wolf, you need to give us an idea of what's going on with your stuff!

He's using a short scale neck right?

I never noticed the two input jack thing before... facinating.

Here's a picture I took in Buffalo last friday night - looks like the 2007/2008 Frankenbass had a new EVH style neck put on it - also notice he's using the Fender jack placement.

It looks like a short scale bass to me, but its hard to tell...
Short scale basses have great midrange and cut through a mix well,
which makes sense considering how upfront (good) his bass sounds
    next to ed's gtr.
Great looking bass, I like it better than the jazz bass franky.

Interesting. That's the first pic I've seen from this tour with him playing the Fender-body Frankenbass from last tour except with the Wolfgang neck and headstock.

I also love the look on Ed's face in that pic watching Wolf place his fingers on the neck from above like he's giving his stamp of EVH approval: "Wow, the kid's got skills!"

Awesome! is there a youtube video of the song this photo is taken from?

Wouldn't mind to hear exactly what hes doing there. Probably just bending the low E, but still, I'd like to see and hear it.
