    Plug-Ins

I know I'm not the only dude who does computer-based recording. Any of you have any plugin recommendations? What are your favorites? What plug-ins have you tried or do you own that you don't like? What plug-ins do you want to try?

    My favorite plug-ins are:
    1. Waves Kramer MPX Master Tape - it gives me the tape saturation I've always wanted and it was only $100. I tried other tape saturation plug-ins, but this is the one I like the best.
    2. ProVerb - included in MOTU Digital Performer 6. Great and easy to use.
    3. MasterWorks Limiter - included in MOTU DP6. Took me a long time to figure out its value. It's based on the old Teletronix LA-2A Optical Leveling Amplifier. Now, I don't want to record without it.

I've just upgraded to Cubase 5 and I'd be interested in some plug ins too. To be totally honest, I'd also be interested in someone coming round and actually making Cubase work!!...Damn its confusing to use when you're used to Audacity!!!

So far I have the Guitar Rig 5 and Amplitube plugins (although I primarily use a Fractal Axe FX Ultra for recording) along with a few studio compressors, never thought about Tape Saturation, thats definitely something I'd be interested in.

I use amplitube a lot, but I have also occasionally been using the Shred plug in as well (similar to amplitube). As for other stuff - I have Reaper, and it comes with a billion plug ins, most of which I have no idea how to use - outside some of the EQ ones.

Alright...cool. We got a little action in this thread.

I was one of those guys who swore that I'd never buy plug-ins for my digital audio workstation (DAW), but I did when I bought the Kramer MPX Master Tape. Happy I did because I love that analogue-y sound.

I haven't tried this, but I just got a text from a friend about this link: http://www.voxengo.com/group/free-vst-plugins/. He said he really liked these plug-ins and the price is right (free).

I've been looking into these a lot more since I'll be moving into a dorm next year and there isn't much tolerance for halfstacks. Guitar Rig 5 has sounded the best when I look up Van Halen sound tests, yet I love the layout of what I think is called the Line 6 POD Farm. Having the visual of your chain like you do with the POD is great and it seems to have plenty of options for pedals, amps, cabs, mics, etc.

Guitar Rig is the way to go IMO. We did our entire CD with it.

I have to say GR5 sounds amazing! I think I will switch to it. I was using Pod Farm so far and as mentioned it as an awesome interface, very simple. But the sound is not as good as Amplitube 3 and Guitar Rig 5, just need to get used to it.
