    Default Official US Festival Release

Saw an interesting little piece of news after managing to sneak a look at my bro's Classic Rock Magazine. The Van Halen section was fine but in the news section it mentioned a label called Shout! Factory had acquired rights to release US Festival audio and visual footage.

Apologies if this is old news but I haven't seen it anywhere else on here. It says details are not yet clear at the time of going to press but that the first US Festival release will be a CD/DVD package of Quiet Riot's performance.

Could the VH footage be included in this and get an official release after all these years?

VH1 Classic has been running some US Festival Stuff. Watching U2 from Day 3 right now.

That show was not one of VH's better performances.

I remember watching the highlight videos from the 1983 US Festival on Showtime throughout the summer of 1983. It was 4 days long but I think they always omitted the country music day from what I remember. About 6 years ago I finally got a copy of those same highlights and burned them to dvd. The quality thoughout is about what you'd expect from watching a 30 year old VHS tape. I've always wondered why that hasn't been officially released, I'd love to have a restored version.

Triumph released their whole performance on dvd and cd on their own a few years ago and it looks and sounds fantastic, I'm sure a lot of people here already know that. I haven't watched my highlight dvd back to back with the full length VH performance in ages but from memory and from what I've read online the highlight video had major repair work done to their performance. I'll have to go back to them to compare.

Motley Crue got left out of the highlight show but of course all that stuff and other cut songs do exist and are all on youtube.

I'm sure the best we can hope for is an official release of those highlights that had usually between 2-4 songs per band from 3 days as well as interviews with the bands before they go on and lots of talking to people in the crowd. It's an "awesome, totally awesome" time capsule of rock in the early 80s. Hoping for Van Halen to release their whole performance I think is total fantasy. There's no chance in hell. I'm just glad we have even a low grade version of it.

Well, I just looked it up and they are releasing full performances. That's surprising.

I just quickly glanced at the front page but several sets from the country day in 1983 are already available. It also appears they're working on releases from both the 1982 and 1983 festivals. That's really exciting!

Full performances seems to be the plan. I've got a bootleg dvd of VH which is pretty poor quality so it would be great to have a half decent quality version.

Ok, so they were all blasted but it was a gloriously reckless and fun classic VH show. Any official Roth dvd would be great right now.

Well, I obviously don't have any more real info than you do but I still think expecting them to release Van Halen's full set is a total pipe dream. Eddie would never allow it, I'm convinced of that. Hell, they practically re-recorded all of Right Here, Right Now to release it and that was from a period when they were actually really tight on stage. Plus, I don't think VH will release or allow others to release anything for the foreseeable future with Mike on it.

I wouldn't be interested in it. VH was a drunken mess.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Forget the US Festival. Just give me a full show from the Fair Warning tour and I'm happy as a fucking clam. If they're all as great as the Oakland songs then you can't go wrong.

Wasn't it called the Us not the US festival. It wasn't about a country, more about the people. I know it sounds like I'm being an ass but it's one of those little things that bug me from time to time.

You're half right. It wasn't U.S. Festival but it wasn't Us Festival, either.

It was the US Festival. Or maybe the us Festival. It depends on what you look at. The tour program which I have actually has the "S" slightly larger than the "U" but that may be meaningless because of the script that's used.

    Program:

    http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyl...ght-0528-2011/

    Here's Wosniak's official site:

    http://www.woz.com/us/

Everywhere it's printed it clearly says "US Festival".
