    Van Halen Gets
    (Old) Act Together

he 16-year-old feud between rock dinosaurs David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen may finally have come to end — thanks to the healing power of money.

Roth, who split with Van Halen in 1985, is back with the man and his band, insiders tell us.

"David has been recording in the studio for the past two weeks," says a source. "They have five tracks recorded and are looking to tour in summer of 2002."

David Lee Roth (r.) with the rest of Van Halen during their brief reunion at the MTV Music Awards
In case you need a refresher course in heavy-metal paleontology, Roth joined as lead singer of Van Halen's band in 1973. By 1985, the group wasn't big enough for their two egos; Roth was replaced by Sammy Hagar. Hagar went solo in 1996.

That year, there was talk that David might return when he helped Van Halen record two bonus tracks for their greatest-hits album and appeared with Eddie onstage at the MTV Music Video Awards.

Then the fighting began again. When Roth found out that Van Halen had hired Gary Cherone as the band's singer, Roth released a statement saying, "It sickens me that the 'reunion' as seen on MTV was nothing more than a publicity stunt."

But Cherone couldn't help Van Halen reclaim its past glory. The band's last record died.

That's why, we hear, Eddie, now 46, reached out to David, now 45.

"They've both realized that people want to see them do their dance together," says a source. "And both guys want to make oodles of money."

Reps for Roth and Van Halen were unavailable for comment. But word is that Eddie, long married to Valerie Bertinelli, has insisted that wild man David has to sleep in a separate hotel when they tour. And David has apparently agreed.

Really? I guess that your newspaper is saying that Mikey lied when he said he's gonna take that one bass when they go out on tour later THIS year?

Hey VanEdge, maybe you should write to the editor of that newspaper and tell them about this.

This article has holes in it that you can drive an 18 wheeler through.

In the studio for two weeks?? As of WHEN? It's been longer than that since we heard from Mikey & Dweezil, both of whom indicated that 5 or 6 tracks were completed already.

And if they DID complete 5 or 6 tracks in two weeks, then logic would dictate that an entire album would be finished within 6 weeks, two months tops, and should be on it's way to pressing right now.

No tour till summer 2002??? That's GOTTA be a misprint!

Where the hell do these papers get their "sources" anyway?

Thanks for passing that story along VE.

The tour in the summer of 2002 is the REALLY scary part of this story. If that were true, there would be no reason to believe that the album would come out any more than a few months before that. And that would mean no album this year.

Not that I put a lot of stock in the accuracy of the story, just making a point.

News papers will take just about any source and run with it. they do not ever need to disclose who their source is. I have worked on several politicl campaigns and hell we would call up newspaper and float some crap around just to get public opinion on issues or a particlular candidate.

Hell their source could be the same asswipes that float shit rumors through here.

I agree with you Glenn----When I saw the "not tour till 2002" I thought to myself-----Shit. The wait continues into the next year. Will I be dead before a new VH album arrives?

But then we have to consider that the newspaper could be way off base.

No offense VanEdge, but (like I've been saying for over a year now) until I hear it from the mouths of Ed, Mike, Al, and ?, I'm not going to believe anything. Thanks for bringing us the article though. Lets hope it's true.

    Horseshit!!!!

And if it were true, Dave staying at different hotels? What a sell-out! Either go all the way of do not try at all.
This would just prove that it's all about money.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they do not deserve to be paid. But do it because it's right, not for $$$$!
