Default Summer is coming, do you remember when VH ruled?

I must agree with a poster who said, "DLR/Van Halen ( that is so foriegn for me to have to point out) songs need to be listened to and absorbed to find full enjoyment. I must say after spinning ADKOT for the 500th time I am simply in awe of their ability to hit the sweet spot so many years later.

Do you remember when VH was blasting from every car radio, open window home, and even in the elevators. I cannot wait until this summer when ADKOT is blasting away like it did in the 70's and 80's. Put the top down and crank it up.

2012 is by far shaping up to be the best year, memories are banked by songs, I expect lots of banking this year.

1978 was the best year of my life not just because of VH but it helped.
EVH 1979: Well, actually it's not much of a vacation, because we run everything ourselves. We design our own album cover, we have to be in the office every day to sign checks - the whole corporation revolves around us. Nothing can be done without our approval. We even have photo approval.

I was born in '75 and my mom listned to lot's of rock radio. So Van Halen was part of my pop-culture consience since I can remember. Their songs were a big part of the airwaves and I remember when I was about 8 years old my friends sister left home for school and left her records behind; one of them being Van Halen II, which we listend to while playing darts. That same year, their videos from 1984, along with ZZ Top's Elimiator videos ruled MTV. I remember hearing their music in arcades, pool halls and bowling alleys; haning out at A&W and listineg to the radio while eating at those pull up order mahcines. I miss those days.

What I would love this summer is for VH to play the outdoor venues. Nothing like great weather, a cold brew and listening to great music!!

Absolutely agree. I bought VH1 when I was 15 and spent the best years of my life with the six pack. Sure, getting married, having kids, etc. is great, but those were the golden years. I'm with you and ready to re-live those moments this summer! Thanks to VH for the lifelong soundtrack...

I remember having my way with several women on the hood of my 1978 Camero (California Yellow w black tinted windows) on the beach with the 6 pack playing. Funny, I don't remember if the cassette player would play thru or if I had to flip it. Guess I was busy during those moments !!!!

Hearing 1984 everywhere that summer was awesome. They were beyond huge then. 5150 in 1986 got a lot of play as well. Those were the anthems of my personal Wonder Years. Oh to be 15 again under the stars with that first real girlfriend and Summer Nights playing in the background...

I remember driving around cranking my tunes back in the mid to late seventies , early eightys. Drinking beer , smoking pot. Didn't think I was really bothering anyone. Of course the windows were down. Never had a car with a/c untill I was in my thirties. I still turn up the radio once in awhile but not nearly as high as I used to. Then again my hearings been iffy ever since I saw AC/DC in Long Beach in 80. I was practcally deaf when I left the show.
We were in the 11th row on the floor and that shit was loud.
Now when some punk pulls up next to me with his thump thump thump rap bullshit cranked up loud enough to drown out a jackhammer I wish I had a rocket launcher to blow up their car.

It may not be summer yet but VH is ruling my life like it hasn't in 20 fucking years. Of course VH has always been in my blood.....I'm a VH guy first and foremost. Have been since I was about 10. But this sudden absorption of all things VH is something I never expected and never thought I'd live again. I'm going from blasting ADKOT in the car on the way home to blasting something like OU812 at the gym. Doesn't matter. It's all sounding killer to me. Out of left field Van Halen is ruling my life again the past month. Never saw it coming.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

What a great thread, totally transports me back! I was nearly 14, it was the start of Spring in Anaheim,Ca. The first hard rock cassette I bought with allowance money was Van Halen 11, about a week after it's release. I don't remember then, knowing the exact release date, the word would just get around. I used to go to friends house to listen to the debut album, we ''shared'' it. VH 2 was the first cassette that was all mine, cassettes were just getting big, I think. I wore that tape out, playing it on the bus to Huntington Beach everyday that summer, imagining I was David Lee Roth. I had seen a picture of Dave wearing a bright colored bandana around his neck. I'd get on that bus with a turquoise colored bandana around my neck, wearing my O.P. shorts, with a Morey Boogie Board in tow, blasting VH2...Beautiful Girls is still my favorite, it reminds me so much of that summer.

I wore 5150 out in 1986. Summer Nights was and always will be my anthem for my high school days.

    ROFL saw this on Youtube.

It was the summer of '87. All the skater punks were screwing around in the college parking lot on their bananaboards. A lone hot babe sat on the curb, gazing into the distance, sighing.

That's when I rolled up, C4 Corvette and aviator shades, cranking "Love Walks In" on the Lanzars. The second we made eye contact, the chorus hit. She mouthed the words "macho badboy...".

17 million dollars later, here I am, telling you to vote for Mitt Romney. It's time to bring the '80s back. Live the dream.
