Seinfeld Actor Survives After Shooting Self in Head

Seinfeld actor Daniel von Bargen, who's best known for playing George Costanza's boss Mr. Kruger in the sitcom, is in critical condition after a failed suicide attempt earlier this week, TMZ reports.

The 61-year-old was in his Cincinnati apartment Monday morning when he shot himself in the head and then called for help. According to audio of the 911 tape posted on the gossip site, he told the operator, "I've shot myself in the head and I need help."

The gunshot to the temple was not an accident. Von Bargen, who is a diabetic, recently learned some bad news. "I was supposed to go to the hospital and I didn't want to. So I shot myself... They were supposed to amputate at least a few toes."

Von Bargen was transported to a nearby hospital.

The veteran actor also recurred as Commandant Edwin Spangler on Malcolm in the Middle . On the big screen, he's appeared in O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Faculty and Super Troopers.

    The 911 tape - Very surreal! http://www.tmz.com/2012/02/22/super-...s#.T0ubx3lj6So

All very weird. This guy is one of the best charactor actors ever.

    Man that's a shame.
He was great as "Mr. Kruger".

Was worried when i saw the headline because a friend of mine was on a couple episodes of that show.

Nice, he was just in that commercial with Seinfeld too.

I enjoyed Seinfeld, but never understood the ridiculous praise it got. Obviously, the problem is with me, though, as I am in the minority.

    I saw that.

    I loved Seinfeld.
The best years were 1995 to 1997 i thought.
Have seen those episodes a million times.

All the best to Daniel von Bargen - "Mr. Kruger".

They should amputate his toes while he's there. How much more could it hurt?

    -or-

The good news is you survived the gunshot wound... the bad news is we we had to amputate your bad right leg up to the knee to relieve the trauma.

Not saying I agree w/ his decision but He'd already had a leg amped. Plus, when you're diabetic to the point of having amputations, it's got to be miserable. Mrs. TVH worked as a hemo-dialysis nurse for 12-13 yrs & while that's a diffrent deal from diabetes, the vast majority of her patients were diabetic as well and many of them had multi-limb amps. One guy was nothing but a torso with a head. Nothing past the shoulders or hips. A pitiful existence at best.

One of his funniest lines was him sitting at his desk looking at his companies annual report and says, boy, we really took on the chin last year.
    Dealing with it.

I couldn't listen more than a minute or two. My mother and aunt's best friend shot herself about a year and a half ago. Her husband found her and she wasn't dead yet.
