Default Black Keys Guitarist on EVH

Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and I were talking this morning and I brought up Eddie and G3 - the stuff that was going on in the latter part of the Satch thread.

"[G3] That's not really music to me - that's math. It's like going to see an algebra exhibit.

    I like bands way better.

Eddie Van Halen is in a band that writes songs, songs you can sing along to. And when you put really interesting guitar on top of that, it's way more satisfying."

What is Black Keyes? Are they important? What's the point of starting this thread knowing very well there are about 2 going on comparing Joe and Eddie etc etc etc... ? Does he even know about Chickenfoot?

Umm - Black Keys are a band currently playing arenas. Dan Auerbach was also one of the voters for the RS 100 Greatest Guitarists issue. He's a musician from a well-known act which is why I started a new thread.

    Any other questions? Cool.

And he didn't compare Joe and Eddie. Joe's name didn't even come up.

G3 is run and owned by Satch, that's why I assumed his name came up. I really have no clue who the Black Keyes are.

Check them out if you like bluesy, crunchy rock.

    No "e" on Keys.

I totally agree. Like my brother said, who wants to watch a guy beat off a guitar for an hour? Bands are way better. That's why I hate it when I say I'm a Van Halen fanatic and these ignorant people go "oh! I love him!"

I said Van Halen, not "Eddie Van Halen"

Crazy that just two guys can do that. I don't even think the White Stripes sold it out that fast. I was surprised they were playing the Garden here in Boston this time around.

You should've asked Fergie for her opinion.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

    I don't get it.

Nevermind. Got it. At least I wasn't as late as MTV in getting it.

Black Keys are awesome! When I'm finally near a music store, I have a long list of albums to buy that includes just about every one of their CD's.

Wasn't sure where this thread was going to go because it's always seemed that Auerbach is one of those snobs who thinks that the old school blues is it and anybody who plays faster like Eddie sucks..... but glad to see differently. Too many people see EVH as that guy that made tapping popular. He was/is so much more!

Why were you talking to him? Do you know him personally or was it an interview?
