Default Why does Ed not play keyboards live

Just wondering why Eddi doesn't play keyboards live, on at least one song during a show..?

Would love to watch him during I'll Wait or even during Jump!

I was stoked when Jump was played at the show in 84 but was when Ed "played" the guitar solo on the keys. It's too hard to make the switch back and forth I guess.

Yeah more than likely. I know The Edge does it for a few tunes like New Yrs Day and Unforgettable Fire. Was hoping Eddi would do the same.

Not that I would want Eddie to play the keys live, because I really wouldn't, however I would prefer that someone was playing them live rather than with a backing track. Playing to a track takes away any potential spontaniety from the performance.

The last tour there were photos in rehearsals at the side of the stage where the guy played the keys.

I would love to see him play keys live on a few tunes. Not a ton but back in the OU812, 5150 tour he jumped on them for a couple tunes.

obviously he chooses not to play them live for whatever reason.....

I am sure if it was important to him to do it, he would find a way.

Even if there was a slight awkward pause between keys and guitar solo, I think the crowd would go nuts if he pounced behind a keyboard.
If it sounds like bull shit, feels like bull shit, and appears to be bull shit, it's probably Eddie talking about his new lead singer being his new brother at a press conference...

Especially for the "Jump" keyboard solo. Geddy can do it.

But, I think that Ed does not get off at all on playing an electronic/unnatural instrument on stage anymore. They are just big pieces of plastic. His instrument of preference is the piano -- a natural instrument. So is the guitar. Keyboards are just an unnatural instrument. I think he really liked the Oberheims back in the day because you could tweak the sound yourself very easily by turning a few dials -- then keyboards got too computerized and pre-set. I've read an interview where he made that very complaint, that he didn't know how to use modern keyboards or that they were too difficult to use and not easy enough to tweak.

If there is a guy playing them live, then put him on stage. No need to have a man behind the curtain. It's not like it's someone offstage playing Ace's parts at a KISS show.

However, while I may be wrong, I'm pretty sure the keys are pre-recorded for live shows.

I don't think Ed could do it. The end of the guitar solo with the sustained note that overlaps into the keyboard solo is too important.

He could leave out that one final run as he makes the transition to the keyboard. Then he could play the keyboard solo just in time for the sequencer to take back over when the main riff kicks back in.

    Ummm............but that's never gonna happen.

Why is everyone pretending that I did not start the exact same thread over in the Tour forum? Please check that thread out because it has gone quiet recently and I would love to hear more discussion on this topic. I will go over there and bump it now.

    Eddie's preference I guess.

How they are doing it now is fine with me.
