Default Why in God's Name Do They Feel Compelled to Play "I'll Wait"?

Seriously. That is by far the worst song in the set list (including Tattoo). There are myriad better songs they could replace it with, including something from the new album!

I've wondered this myself. Really irks me when you consider there are so many hard rocking songs fans would like to hear but won't. Even in 1984, I don't think I'll Wait was exactly a fan favourite. Little odd.

I don't think I've ever known one person who likes that song. And nobody would ever out that on their short list of faces

    Agree totally, dude.

In Pgh in 2008, it put the crowd to sleep. Total snoozefest. It don't look much better this time.
The casual fans (Most people) want to hear Jump and HFT from 1984. I have even heard the casual fans slag this song.

Us, GGB, Top Jimmy, DDL, bring the noise! two thumbs up on GGB at the last show. Keep those surprises coming, gentlemen.

VH had four top twenty hits with Dave:

    Jump (1)
    Pretty Woman (11)
    Panama (13)
    I'll Wait (13)

It's not surprising that they consider these to be fan favorites and they continue to play them.

If most of the people here had their way, VH wouldn't perform three of their four biggest hits.

It might have to do with the pacing of the show... To slow it down... Or: Dave really sings that one, so maybe it's a showcase for his voice. Or: Van Hagar was known for its power ballads, and VH is thinking that fans might expect one... And "I'll Wait" is as close as Dave gets to "When It's Love."

Still, I agree: "As Is" and "Outta Space" for "Pretty Woman" and "I'll Wait."

Wow- I have to say I'll Wait was one of my favorite live numbers on the '08 tour and I'm looking forward to hearing it again! Had no idea so many die hards disliked this song!?!?!

That pretty much answers the OP's question. This is only the second Roth tour in the past 27 years. There are going to be many thousands of fans seeing Van Halen with DLR for the very first time. For $150 to $350, those folks expect to hear every song within pissing distance of "hit."

I like I'll Wait and think it sounds great live. Dave's vocals always fit well with this song. I also like the sound of Al's drums.

I like the studio version of I'll Wait... always have. It's like a bitch slap of memory from a time in the '80's that will never happen again. Hearing in now later in life, it still makes my toe tap, head bob and pulls my fart string just enough to giggle at my air guitar antics. It was the perfect pop song back in the day... sweet hard candy.

These days live though? Throw it in the trash. Throw every live song with recorded keyboards on the curb for that matter. If Ed loves his keyboards so much, he should bust them out on stage and make it real. Tattoo is good hope for the future. Subtle percolating keys that sound great on record, but don't dictate the tone of the song when played live. OK!... I'm done.

Yeah I was at that show. Surprisingly it was WAY heavy though, so I didn't mind it as much. Also did you notice how loud the mix got after that song? Instead of Dave being able to talk the words to Little Dreamer he had to scream over the rest of the mix. killed Little Dreamer IMO.

There are so many older songs that could replace I'll Wait but I'd vote for a new song. Anything off of ADKOT worksfor me
