Default How 'bout a Medley on this tour?

With so much good material on new album the band has created a conundrum (albeit a good one) about what to include in the tour setlist. They are almost obligated to do the standards (Jump, You Really Got Me, Running With The Devil etc) but face increasing calls from fans to add rarely heard songs into set. I'm thinking maybe the band should incorporate a medley into the show. I really loved how they incorporated Girl Gone Bad (before it was released on 1984) and cover of Cream's I'm So Glad into Somebody Get Me A Doctor during the Diver Down tour. I for one would like to hear songs like Girl Gone Bad, Light Up The Skies, Drop Dead Legs, Me Wise Magic, Top Jimmy, Mean Street, Outta Love or Sinner's Swing to name a few. We wouldn't get entire songs but we'd get to hear a variety. I'm probably in minority but I would even propose doing away with Ed's solo in favour of this. Let Dave get his break and let Ed, Al and Wolf jam away for 7 or 8 minutes. Huh? huh? whattaya think? Should they shake things up a bit?

I read/heard somewhere that Drop Dead Legs was going to be included in the setlist. I think it would be cool if they closed with Happy Trails instead of Jump. Im kinda sick of that tune.

If you're in the minority then so am I. I think it is a great idea, to take the 3 Halens and let it be a full on instrumental medley. Metallica did something like that back in the day for "And Justice for" All songs.

Dirty Movies, Light up the Sky,Drop Dead Legs, Hear About it Later, Take Your Whiskey Home would all fit in well there in my opinion.

The alternative, throw in some deep cuts and let a couple of the standards that they played last tour pass ... I think Cradle, Pretty Woman and I'll wait could be off for this tour, just a hunch and I could be way off.

Rush can pull off a medley. They are the only band that are quirky enough to pull it off and they do it as a lark. Period. Their shows are 3 hours as it is . Van Halen Songs are short enough. No Medley required. Let the whole thing rip. I was pissed when they shortened Mean Street the last tour.

What about a medley including some Hagar Songs?

How about NO! They were a good band with Hagar, but that was not Van Halen. It won't happen anyway.

    Dave couldn't pull em off.

They should just add about 5 songs once they are in a groove. The show isn't even 2 hours.

...and yes, pull out mean streets, pretty woman, you really got me.

    Unfortunately, you're right.

Adding Pleasure Dome would be great - even with Sam it was done without vocals live and was still very, very awesome. It would even be a little nod of recognition to that second era of the band that everybody nowadays seems to want to forget about.

But, I sadly don't see that happening anytime soon...

I'm not a fan of medleys or cutting songs short. Play the whole song.

I remember seeing Prince many years ago and it seemed like every song I really liked was done in two minutes.

In this same vein, it is slightly disappointing that they are playing essentially a trimmed down version of the last tour despite having 13 new songs to choose from and FIVE YEARS to figure out how to work in some deeper cuts

No interest in a medley. Play a full song or don't play anything.

If it meant there was more material that we haven't heard, I'd take a medley all day long. Give me a taste of Hear About It Later, Drop Dead Legs, Light Up the Sky and Whiskey to jack the running time closer to two hours and I'd feel very nourished.

Fair enough on the medley hatred. I'm not a huge fan either. Just being greedy and wanting more, I suppose. Which is ironic, since medleys always leave me wanting more. I just don't see the band squeezing a couple more tunes into this current set, and would settle for anything.
