    Filming at Shows

FYI guys, and this is straight from the band. They are totally okay with pictures and filming taking place on the tour.

So take lots of pics and video if you want!

Thanks,Brett....is it possible that the venue could have an alternate policy, prohibiting cameras? Or does that always get dictated by the band? Just wondering so there's no confiscation of a nice camera at the gate

Awesome, not to sound dumb, but will the security guys at the doors and gates adhere to that?

Are you freaking serious? How do we get permission to enter with the equipment? Most of the ticket takers won't let you in with a bottle of water much less a camera.... I know that some band, you have to have a pass to be able to bring into the show. If possible Brett, can you find out some more info and pass it along. Thanks.

LOL dude they don't mean professional video equipment and tripods.

They mean your cell phone and maybe a small camera. Like what I was doing.

I wouldn't flaunt it, I don't care what the band says. Security people are fucking assholes, they don't give a shit what the band says. Just put the camera in your pocket or in your wife or GF's purse. Inside they won't hassle you.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at, they can be assholes. Haha, at 1998 VH show I went to in Mass. it was 100 degrees and most everyone was soaked. Security was pissing everyone off and patting and grabbing and being dicks. I had a dark tshirt on, raised my arms up and buddy got two bare palm fulls of soaked armpit as I smiled in his face.

I've got a small point and shoot 14 mp that I can almost palm. Decent zoom.
Cool that the band thinks it's ok. Thanks for the info.

Who is this band "Van Halen" you are referring to?

The "Van Halen" we've all known throughout the years would never allow this!

2012 MUST be the end..there is no other explanation!
Finally trying to pick up guitar after too many years.

Security was pretty close to me at the rehearsal and I had no problems. Folks, invest in decent small cameras and shoot the band!

That was 8 HD cameras, (only one "real" camcorder, the very far angle) 4-5 of which were Sony HX9Vs that can be had for around $250.

I shot the rehearsal with one and it's great...

The security outside the Forum were assholes. Inside nobody cared.

Kinda hard for me to hide my camera in the front row. In fact the security in front of the stage tried to make sure they stayed out of my shot.

This is a common subject at a taper forum I hang out at. Ultimately, it's up to the venue's security. And more often than not - the venue security will not give two shits what the band says. It's not uncommon for someone to show up with an email from the band or to actually have the band's manager speak to venue security saying it's OK to record audio/film - and the venue security guy still says, "Doesn't matter. The venue's policy is NO CAMERAS."

And since it's highly unlikely that anyone in the Van Halen camp is going to make any kind of an official statement about this - or that the band's manager is going to take the time to engage with venue security regarding this - it truly will be up to venue's security.

I was at one show in 2008 in the pit where security was all over me from the minute I got there because I was always holding my camera up (which led them to believe I was shooting video as opposed to only taking pictures). And at another 2008 show in the pit - the security guy was literally only five feet away and he was looking toward me the entire show - and he never said a word.

So hope that security doesn't care - but be prepared to go stealth mode.
