Default Song that has grown on you the most?

Okay, so we know which tunes are our favorites or least favorites... Most of us have had the album for a few days, which song was maybe a skipper or gomakeasandwicher but now is coming around for ya???

For me it's kind of tough because none of them really annoyed me to the point of dislike, but I definitely had a few that if weren't on the record wouldn't break my heart...

The one that has grown on me the most is probably Beat's Workin'. When I heard it the first few times, the vocals sounded like "Takin' Care of Business" to me. It just kind of bugged me... Now, it's a song for me that I would be disappointed if it wasn't on the album. When listening to the song as a whole, Roth's vocals fit the song really well and now annoy me quite a bit less than they did in the beginning. The thing that I missed the first few listens because of the vocals and my brain turning off was Ed's playing. His guitarwork from the 3:14 mark on in particular is some of his most fluid and natural playing on the record... The tune as a whole is almost like a Roth flavored Top of the World, a fitting end to a great record... I really enjoy this song now and I don't skip it and go back to She's the Woman... (sorry Tattoo, listened to ya too much in the beginning before the other tunes came out...)

I'm still absorbing this CD. It may be a while before I know what songs are leaving their mark on me.

But every time A song is over I'm like someone who got blown away. This album is amazing.

Hit me like, well a freight train. I was a little frightened by it. Now I keep going back to it. I'm with those saying this is 2012 style, fully jacked up, new VH. Lovin it.

China Town grew on me. When I first heard it I thought the guitar and bass playing were great right off the bat, I hated the vocal melodies. I like the vocals more now. That's been the case with several tunes on the album, great guitar playing, I wasn't digging the vocal melodies but some grew on me, some I still dislike and probably always will. I won't say which tunes because I don't want a 9 page debate. I'm still not crazy on the mix but overall I like the album.

She's the Woman. Was never impressed with the demo but this is now turning into one of my favs. Honestly it is because of the prominent bass.

    Outta Space

Love the way this tune has grown on me. It is simply just a rockin' tune.

The whole album just blows me away. Someone said in a previous thread "the six pack is now the heavenly 7." I couldn't agree more!

Seriously...Tattoo. I know its not a favorite with many folks but I just love that song. The lyrics are fun, the music is good, nice groove.

Big River is one that has really grown on me.

It does take several listens to get settled into the music.

At first, I did not care for Blood and Fire. I thought it was the second worst album track, behind Tattoo. However, now I look forward to hearing B&F. It fits in well between all of the stellar "Big Rock" on the album. I've had Blood and Fire stuck in my head for days now, which is a good thing.

    Me too.

Even the Cafe Wha show, I thought it was just ok. Hearing it now though, what a great song. The bass is great, Ed and Al are Ed and Al, and Dave's lyrics crack me up.

Tattoo...love it now! Better speakers, not the only song to be so scrutinized, listening to other opinions,whatever...but now I love it! It appeals to my wife and kids, and a lot of ppl that aren't or are casual fans, and that draws them into the whole record with me,so in this way it's like DTNA or Jump.Makes it better when the love for VH is shared by all for some reason.I just love it,lyrics,Eddies solo, harmonies, etc

I've liked every song thus far, some more than others, and it seems each day, there is a new "favorite" that I find my self playing repeatedly. There are two that stand out for me:

"As Is". I love the multiple changes in the song for one thing. The heaviness of the intro that suddenly breaks out into the classic Van Halen groove. Then half way through the song takes an entirely different, darker feel. The solo could almost be slipped into the tapped end of Eruption as an addendum of sorts. Then there's the bluesy, clean guitar breakdown with Ed, Dave and Al which segues right back into the bridge and then the meoldy at the end that fades out is just killer. I love it.

The other one that I love is "Stay Frosty". It's a fun song musically and lyrically, with some of Dave's funniest and most clever lyrics on the album.

I can't pick one at this point. They're all too good and too fresh and each song holds its own flashes and bits of magic. You don't hear them all the first time, so the more I listen, the more they seem to revealed.

Bullethead was pretty meh for me until it came on when I was exercising the other night. I also started to love Outta Space after a few listens.
