Default VH's record deal with Interscope

Do we know any of the details? Don't bands often have a 2-3 record contract? Or is that an old model?

This would be a one album deal. Stake my life on it. 14 years between albums and no guarantee who the singer will be...would put my money up front
What I heard prior to the desk being signed was that it was a 1 album price/deal.

Hope it's not long before a follow up is discussed.

Would be great if there were more albums but if not, they went out on top!!

With the big return of Van Halen, do you think WB will use this opportunity to push the ild catalog with Hagar era remasters or re-re mastered six pack, maybe a box set or something?

Warner Brothers has been in disarray for years now and probably couldn't compete with the labels that are on much better footing. Not just financially but even their management has been collapsing for some time. People coming and going all the time at that label. I think VH were smart to go elsewhere. For all the bread VH made Warner Brothers over the years, I don't think they ever got the kind of support such a cash cow warranted. At least not in the first half of their career there.

This is what I have been told:
    - One-album deal with an option to re-sign
    - Azoff Management is footing the bill for ALL the promotion for the album as part of the deal (apparently, Interscope still saw this album as a medium-risk venture due for miscellaneous reasons)

Gleaned this info from an employee of a rival label. This may or may not be accurate, but word gets around in certain circles.

I posed this question to see what WB is thinking and doing right now. I should know soon if someone doesn't hear first.

Like Andrew said, money is not as easy to get. The industry has changed significantly in the last decade, and major labels are slimming down significantly so they don't go out of business. They can't afford to offer up huge, multi-album deals because individual albums aren't selling in big numbers (except Taylor Swift's albums). The last big, multi-album deal I'd ever heard of was Michael Jackson's final deal, and I think that was actually posthumous. No more six album deals for $60mil or whatever like the one Aerosmith got back in the 90's. Those days are gone, no matter WHO the artist is.
