Default the forgotten, the overlooked and the totally under-rated

I've been thinking of starting a thread like this for awhile. I've come across a number of cd's over the last few years that are just great but they kind of fell through the cracks for one reason or another, I figured alot of you guys have run into the same thing so why not have a thread about it? Anyway here are some of my favorites:

Poison-Crack a Smile. I am NOT a poison fan. I hated them in the late 80's. Somehow I stumbled upon this and was very, very suprised at how good it is. It's got some cheesy stuff on it but for the most part it's a very, very good cd. Blues Scarceno (sp) just changed the dynamic of the band a little but everything sounds better on this.

Black Sabbath-Dehumanizer. I don't understand how this CD got so overlooked. Almost everything on it is a gem. Computer God (Ronnies scream near the end is epic), I.....workout to that song and you'll understand how great it is. Master of Insanity, Buried Alive, Sins of the Father. It's every bit as good if not better than Ozzy's no more tears (which was a big seller at about the time this was released). It's just a great, great cd. Highly recomended.

Hardline-Double Eclipse. Hair band yes. Great band yes. Tons of great songs on here. if this would have come out a few years earlier it would have been huge. It just missed the boat for the type of music that is on here.

kiss-Revenge. Again, I am not a Kiss fan but this cd is great. This is what kiss should have always been, not the disco crap they did or the hair band wannabe band they were. Just a mean rock and roll band. Almost everything on this is a killer.

damn Yankees-self titled. As good as any rock cd that came out in the late 80's and early 90's. Piledriver by itself is probably one of the best songs Nugent ever did IMHO and you really can't beat Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades when they sing together, not quiet at the Hagar and Anthonly Level but pretty damn close.

Slash's Snakepit-The first disk they did. Quality stuff on here. fun, fun stuff.

more later but that's what I came up with off the top of my head.

100% agree on both Hardline and Kiss-Revenge.
Loved the Hardline album. The cover of Hot Cherie, and Rhythm From a Red Car were awesome. And Revenge was so different for Kiss, it was so much more straight forward.

I know i'll probably get a lot of shit for this one, but Warrant's Dog eat Dog was, in my opinion, their best music ever. April 2031, Hole In My Wall. Still occasionally listen to this album.

Also, Keel, Black N Blue, Helix, Y&T....all kind of cheesy, sure, but it's not something that was overplayed like Poison, Warrant, Crue.
    Good thing to know:

Warrant was a hairband-no one can deny that but they put out a lot of great stuff, dog eat dog just got buried, listen to machine gun. That song rocks and the ultra phobic disk is very good as well

I loved Damn Yankees! Bad Company always opened for them - great show. I'll have to dig out that CD again.

2nd one was a huge drop off but that first one is great. I really don't think there is a bad song on it. I mean you have your ballad (can't remember the name but it was huge) but every other track is very, very strong. The song Damn Yankee is GREAT and I honestly listen to Piledriver all the time when I work out. I don't even really like Nugent all that much but he shines on this disk.

One of my votes for most under-rated disk of ALL TIME has to be the 1994 Motely Crue disk with John Carobi. That f'n disk smokes, the production is fantastic. It's heavy as hell at times and really does it get any better than when the whole band kicks in midway through misunderstood?

    To agree with earlier posts.

Badlands was a great disc if you like a little blues in your hard rock. Winter's Call is one of my all time favorite songs. You actually made me put this sucker on for the first time in a while, thanks!

Y&T Contagious, great disc. Some songs sound uber-cheesy now, but loved it at the time.

I agree about Damn Yankees, that is a great hard rock disc. Shaw and Blades together is a great vocal combo. Some of the Nuge's best playing in his career on that disc.

Warrant - there are some good songs on Dog Eat Dog, especially Hole in My Wall.

Motley Crue - how could Motley fans not support this? I probably like them with Vince more, but this is a great album, better than anything they have released since bringing Vince back.

Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    How about 'The Firm'?

They had some pretty good songs on their first album.

Saw The Firm live at MSG, maybe 1985. Page was wrecked, but did his violin bow solo. Slept out all night for tickets - 16 row on the floor. Not bad, but great considering it was like 30$.

    A curve ball choice....

Good ole blues based rock....Spin Doctors "Homebelly Groove"...a live EP that showcases a tight band in top form.

    Nice pics so far. ^

That ballad on Damn Yankees was Higher or something like that. Great album btw. I guess I could pull out my cd and look.......

Another fave is Great Radio Controversy, or anything by Tesla. They're very underrated.
