What Should Be The Second Single & Video Off Of 'A Different Kind Of Truth'?

The second single & video will greatly effect sales and chart position in these crucial first weeks. They already released a pop friendly tune, I think the next needs to be a hard rocker and draw out of the woodworks all the old rock fans that haven't bought a cd in 10-20 years. I'd pick HONEYBABYSWEETYDOLL along with an off-the-wall, insane, sexy video.

    Interesting question.

I think if they are looking for something more commericial sounding I would say they go with 'Blood and Fire'.

But I think it may be 'She's the Woman' since its been getting great reviews since they played it at Cafe Wa in January.

I agree with Blood and Fire. It's got the commercial appeal. I'm not a fan of songs about being in a band but it's one of the better ones.

In a better world, As Is would already be number one with a bullet.

(I still don't know what "With a bullet" means)
What once upon a time made Van Halen unique in the progression of metal and hard rock (besides Eddie’s prowess as a guitarist) was its sense of fun, its willingness to be not just over the top, but weird.

If I were them, I'd release "She's The Woman". It has all the ingredients: cool riff, great lyrics and performance by Dave, blistering solo, singalong chorus and it packs it all in under three minutes.

    You and Your Blues.

    or

    Blood and Fire.

Those are the two I can hear on the radio. As Is, HBSW, China Town, Big River, they are all a little too heavy for the radio.

    Maybe Stay Frosty.

I couldn't care less what gets played on the radio. I have the album. I play what I want, when I want.

I both think they should and feel they will go with "She's the Woman".

It was the first new tune they debuted at the Cafe Wha? and they played it again at the LA show. It's gotten great feedback in all the reviews, it has a simple, catchy and classic-VH sounding chorus, and it's the perfect length for a single. No trimming needed on it (flippin' hate it when songs are cut down a bit to be made into singles).

If they went with something else, I think the smart choices would be "You and Your Blues", "Big River" or "Blood and Fire". With a single you want to have a certain commercial appeal, and all three of these songs have it: catchy choruses, great guitar hooks and thumping solos.
The song ain't dirty it's really just the way we sing it...

You and your Blues should have been the FIRST single.

Followed by Blood and Fire and Stay Frosty.

And no, I'm not just running down my fav's. Actually thinking about what could be best suited for mass consumption.

I'd have to say "As Is". If you listen to this song it starts off sounding very modern with detuned guitars, then kicks your ass with a classic Eddie Boogie Riff that just kills . The Chorus is Classic Van Halen 3 part harmonies with insane energy, followed by a sweet solo. This song is more true to form as compared to Tattoo. Just my 2 pennies.

I agree with that choice, but also I think Outta Space would be great believe it or not. Old enough for classic rock and new enough for today.

Man, what a great question. I'd have to go with "She's the Woman", followed by "As Is" which is the song that really blew my face out on this album. I was not expecting it to be as great as it turned out to be.

Id go with You and Your Blues. It definitely had a potential to be more than a hit on the AOR charts.
