Hockey is not that unique from other sports. Thereís an object that strategically needs to be brought into another area and the team that does that the most wins.

Like Soccer or Football or Baketball or Baseball (into the field of play to initiate runs).

The difference with hockey though is that they do all of that while moving around on a quarter inch piece of sharpened metal on ice.

There is simply no comparison in terms of skill and athleticism to other sports. Everybody knows how to run and can get faster or stronger at it than others.

    Skate? Not so much.

So, got a letter from Brown today.

Well, the reason they got rid of so many sports and specific ones, well, she worded very nicely, but they got rid of the sports that were too "white" and too "male" for lack of better words.

Except for football of course, as that actually generates revenue. Her virtue signalling would only go so far.

Not surprising. One day whites will not be allowed to work in law enforcment I suppose? The world has gone mad and is eagerly awaiting the comet to hit for a reboot.

For me, there are several things that keep soccer from being super entertaining. While it is constantly going--there are few breaks--the problem is there is no anticipation, no build up. The action/intensity level is the same for 2 to 3 hours which can get monotonous after a while. If there is no "down time", it all becomes the same. Football and baseball on the other hand, is filled with anticipation and big payoffs. The intensity level varies dramatically through out the game, which creates a much more exciting game to watch in my opinion. I'm hanging on every play, anticipating a huge change in the game. In football, it could be a long deep pass for 60 yards, or a massive sack on the quarterback for a big loss in yardage or maybe a turnover. In baseball, sure there is a lot of "standing around", but there are moments when I am hanging on every pitch--hoping for a base clearing double, bases loaded strikeout or home run. If my team is in the playoffs, which sadly is rare, I can't even look at the TV. My nerves can't handle it. My point is, if everything is at the same level, its not interesting anymore and becomes less exciting..again, to me.

The other thing is that the field is massive in soccer. With a field that large, the scoring is kept at a minimum. Can you imagine how much less exciting hockey and basketball would be if the rink or court was as large a soccer field? I actually think indoor soccer is more exciting than outdoor soccer because the smaller field of play increases the scoring chances. Also, the ball can be bounced off the walls, sort of like in hockey which I think makes it more interesting.

    Anyway, just My opinion.

I think all sports would be improved if they used George Carlin's rules.

It's funny to me though because everyone of us, at least in the Bay Area, who were like 10 years old and younger in the early 80's, played in a soccer league alongside baseball. I have oodles of soccer pics. We played soccer at recess. I don't know when that changed though.
