There are some good songs on there, but the production on the album is so fucking shitty that it's hard to listen to.

Thin, tinny, no bottom end...it simply sounds like shit.

It works on Hina, and it doesn't hurt Damn Good as much as it is acoustic...but damn, horrible production.

That's another nice tune, man. I totally forgot about it.

I guess Dave wrote it with Brett Tuggle.

that was very cool. I wish they let Mike do more stuff like that, it's a whole different dynamic really.

one thing that always really bothered me was you can't really hear Mike on a lot of material but when Ed played bass on Sam's solo album the bass was right there and sounded cool but then we get OU812 and poof Mike's bass is buried again. WTF guys?

If you get the time, listen to that entire Tuscon show. The whole band is on fire. FYLT is another highlight.

Love walks in has that unchained harmonizing effect, especially when he does the slippery ascending run, during the solo.
To me, it just had a diver down flavor, though it was in this really light, ballady tune.
Maybe he used an old guitar for the leads.

The bass could very well be Mike.
It just sounds super “ session guy” , like it has this different feel to it.

I went back and checked out the bass on right now....
Def Ed on that one, IMO.

Regarding Mike's bass playing during the YRGM breakdown in 1979....

This makes several times that I've read people here say how much they love the bass playing during the extended middle breakdown of YRGM in 1979. I agree, and YRGM is one of the reasons the '79 tour remains my favorite VH tour.

Well, this might shock some people, and some might even find it hard to believe, but...

It is EDDIE playing some of that trippy stuff on BASS in the middle of YRGM in 1979. (And I've never seen anyone on here state that, so I don't think anyone knows that).

Have you guys ever seen the photos from '79 where Eddie is standing right behind, and against Mike, reaching around him, like he's playing Mike's bass? (I'm sure at least Heisenberg has, if he wants to post one). Well, those photos exist because that was actually happening on stage. It was a planned part of every show.

At all shows of that tour, in the middle of YRGM, and always at the same part, Ed would get up behind Mike, reach around Mike to his bass, and Mike would lift up his arms, and Ed would play Mike's bass. He would play that funky/trippy stuff for around 30-60 seconds, and then he would back away and go back to playing his guitar. It happened at every show, or at least many shows.

Yes, Mike's playing was awesome, as always, during that tour. But the bass playing at one-hour-and-18-minutes into the Tucson '79 show is Eddie.

Holy shit, I remember the pics but never thought it was for musical reasons.
I thought they were just clowning around.

Very cool, and kinda explains some of what we’re attributing to Mike.

WOW. Thanks, Jeff, I just learned something new. Hopefully some heads dont explode upon reading that it was Ed playing some of that cool stuff.

Regardless, Mike IS indeed playing some great licks throughout the full band jam on that tune.

And Alex is off the charts amazing, as he was that whole tour. Just a completely different Animal compared to the more restrained, less energetic Al that a LOT of younger VH fans first saw in action on LWAN. Too bad.

I've seen those pictures but never knew it was "real."

Kind of lends credence to that story in VH rising about Ed and Dave on the beach before the Golden West Ballroom show and Dave telling the guy with the sax to let Ed play it because he can play anything better than most.

You're either born with that kind of talent or you're not. And if you're not all the practice in the world isn't going to get you there.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

To be fair the material on LWAN didn't really lend itself to that type of bombast.
