The Police were so interesting in that Sting's Bass & Stew's drums were like the melodic
anchor (Walking on the moon, When the world is running down), and Andy was adding the colors &
    soundscapes.

Then again, Message in a Bottle is anchored by his arpeggiated sequence/riff.

I love how percussive his part is in "De do do do..."
That bright tele, with the palm mute.

Summers could do so much, add so much, without ever showboating.

Lifeson's a guy i always took for granted.
I was immersed in EVH land, Gary Moore, Uli Roth, Schenker....

Lifeson's solo's, at that time, just didn't seem as clean as the other guy's.

But i always loved his parts on things like "Limelight" and "Red Barchetta."

I could hear he had his own thing going on, and i could also hear how important he
    was to the RUSH sound/experience.

And the solo's he added in Limelight, Free Will, Subdivisions....

His parts were great, no question.

Yet, i never held him up as one of my Guitar Gods.

Alexís solo in Digital Man or his riffs in Natural Science may change your mind. Give Ďem a new spin.

Casual fan of the B-52's, but yeah, the ladies harmonizing is they best part of the band. I really don't like the male singer at all, he's a crappy lounge singer.

While I like that the newer guitarist they had (Roam era) was a better technical guitarist, the original guitarist was a true original. If anyone has some time, read up on him on Wikipedia. His string usage and tunings were unique to say the least. Interesting stuff.

Was the guitar solo on Up For Breakfast recorded for the second Cherone album? Because the guitar tone and style sounds just like VH3.

I'm not a fan or anything, but the B-52's are pretty entertaining and the women's voices are so damn cool. Schneider's fuckin' hilarious and so over the top with that lisp: "Thspathce junk...lathser bommmmb...othzone hole...better put up my umBRELLaaa!"

He was Cindy (one of the singer's) brother, and he started the band.

Poor guy died so young, like 32, from the early days of the Aids epidemic.

I think the drummer (Keith Strickland?) moved over to guitar, afterwards.
He was technically more polished, but lacked the creativity of Ricky.

I like those tracks quite a bit.

I think he is the ONLY guy for Rush, and had amazing chemistry with Ged & Neil.
But his playing was perfect for them, but i just never put him on any of my best
    player lists.

But he came up with great parts, and had those signature chordal things.

The guitar tone for the intro to Limelight is so cool.
It's very nasally & boxey, but it sounds somehow perfect.

He never got that same tone (for that song) Live.

I wonder what he played through.

Listening to MIT radio right now, and early B-52's just came on!

    How appropriate.

I hear that signature spy guitar, but don't know the song...

"There's a moon in the sky called the moon." (Just looked it up).
