Default True Stories--Put DLR stories here !

Diver Down Tour, I was about 5th row center stage and Dave picked a hot ass woman out of the crowd. Dave's security/roadie pulled the girl onto the stage and Dave gave her a big ol' kiss and they then took her backstage. Her boyfriend started moving closer to the front and then threw a Zippo lighter at Dave and hit him in the face. Well, the whole crowd started boooing and it stopped the show. The guy was yelling and cussing at Dave and in true fasion Dave said--"That's all right, I'm gonna fuck his girlfriend after the show". Now, I don't know if that is when Dave started using that line or what. But, everyone around the dude started fighting with they guy and kicking his ass and security had to get the dude off of the floor before he got beaten to death ect.
Later, during the show, Dave took a big ol' swig of Jack Daniels and ran toward the riser platform stage left and as he went to climb the stair, he slipped and drove his left knee into the edge of the riser. He stood up and took another drink and said--"damn that's good shit". He was severly bleeding through out the rest of the show !!!
I was 15 years old, it was my 2nd VH concert (saw Fair Warning) and those where Good times---Damn Good Times !!!

When I saw VH in 2007, there was this middle aged woman next to me that had a homemade WACF purse. I told her I liked her purse and she proceeded to tell me that back in the day "David Lee Roth made me cream my jeans."

I saw dave and his DLR Band in 2006 i think it was at Wild Adventures Theme Park in Valdosta, Ga. I was like 18 or so. Halfway through Panama dave's mic battery went dead, and he goes over to the guitar player's mic and says something along the lines of, "HEY YOU, YEA YOU, get your mother fucking ass over here and give me another fucking mic, no, now, right fucking now. get your fucking ass down here right now". Halfway through the show he told everyone "Fuck the reserved seating you guys come up to the stage". Me and my brother weaved through the crowd of about 4,000 people and I was about 2 feet away from Roth. There were a few younger kids up there too, and he almost looked surprised that the younger generation was into the VH stuff. Kick ass show though. He looked at some like 60 year old woman during "Everybody wants some" and goes "You are a lil slut aren't you" haha. good times

Ha, good story. I saw this tour two nights in a row in Philly back in '82. Yes, he used that fuck your girlfriend schtick both nights. In fact his in-between song stories were identical. Back in the pre-internet days we didn't know any of this beforehand, each show was like new to the people in each city. In a way I think it was better back then since there was some element of surprise. Now we know his entire Ice Cream Man story and others well in advance of attending a show because we can watch basically each show on youtube by the next day. I will say that back in '82, severely bleeding was NOT part of his normal routine. He didn't do THAT at either of the shows I attended. haha

lol that's awesome. I was at 2 of those shows too. Remember the arm cast show for DD ? lol

In regards to Dave and FW tour. This is more of a personal VH moment when I was a kid. The first show I saw that tour I went with a bud. We were barely 15 and huge fans. We sat 2nd level last row on Ed's side of the stage....8 or so songs in everyone in our section was sitting. We were so fired up we were on our feet the whole time rocking out and going nuts. We must of stood out...2 kids rocking out in black tshirts in front of a white wall, dim venue lights behind us, and everyone in front of us sitting. Dave did one of those things where the music stops and he runs up to the sides of the stage, points at people in the crowd...rallying reaction b4 going back into the tune.

When he came to our side of the stage he was looking/interacting with the people directly in front of him. We were directly above that level. He then looked up at the fans, saw us going crazy, pointed right at us. He pointed, nodded his head smiling then said something like "you're all a bunch of crazy motherfuckers, we just played NY and you guys kick their asses"..or something like that. We went nuts! We couldn't believe it. People in front of us looked back @ us..heard what he said and they all started freaking too waving their arms trying to get seen lol but he moved to the center of the stage and they started playing again. It's like by the time they realized what happened the moment had past. We were kids and that blew us away. I still remember it with fond memories. For a 15 yo that moment was epic to us. Being a teenager in the 80's & seeing VH in the summer was a damn good time.

We went back and saw them again in the Spectrum.. I think it was two days later. I was disappointed! Dave said the same line...about how the crowd that night kicked the ass of the crowds the nights b4...and this time he wasn't pointing at us. lol I felt less special. lol Being young and naive I thought he meant it... I learned a lesson about show biz that second show. lol

Lesson: Dave's shtick is good, but pre-programmed. I saw the improvised "Magic Bus" 6 times last tour.

HA. Fitting place to repost this if you care to give it a gander. Wish I could have been there but my band mates met him during the press run for Strummin' With The Devil. Another great insight into how great Dave can be when he drops the schtick for a bit.

Dave used the "I'm gonna come down there and fuck your girlfriend" line at the US Festival in 83 at Glen Hellen in So Cal. I think the guy in this case sprayed Dave with water when he got close to the edge of the stage.

lol Ya for a lot of it but it's not unique to Dave. Too many tours and bands to mention seeing multiple shows where a lot of things were repeated every show. It's show biz.

One of my good friends used to work at a casino in Kansas City carrying bags up to the room for guests (bellhop). Back in 2002 or 2003? Dave played at the casino there and my friend was lucky enough to carry Dave's bags and got to ride in the elevator with Dave. When my friend told him that he loved Dave's lifestyle of partying Dave just said "What can I say my life's a Cabaret" and gave him a $50 tip. Later that evening Dave called the front desk and had my friend bring him some more towels. Dave answered the door gave him a $25 tip for that. It was the most money my friend made in with tips in one day period the whole time he worked there and Dave was by far his favorite "guest"
You can wonder what Roth and Eddie Van Halen are doing in the same band. Its hard to imagine two guys with less in common psychologically, yet together they seem to make a complete personality. Extrovert balanced by introvert, logic by intuition, entertainment balanced by artistry. --Charles Young, Musician Magazine.
