Default "When its love" - 1st impressions back in 88'

In australia this was the first single, and a top 10 hit. I had been into VH big time since early 87, after hearing "5150".
For me, I loved this track. Its not as good as "Love walks in", but it was a catchy ballad, and I loved Mike and Eds beach boys harmonies too.
just wondering what people thought of a big ballad as being first single and what they thought of song overall...
What is understood need not be discussed

"Dont disturb my paradise. I've asked you once. I've asked you nice" - "SERIOUS JU JU"

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977

I think i remember "Black n blue" being the first single over here.
I was a HUGE fan in 1988 and loved the song and the video - "When it's love".

I think they filmed the video while on the MOR tour.

A tour de force by the whole band. Some of the finest singing ever done by Sam. Especially from the 3:17-3:24 mark.

I liked the song but would've preferred that they did a video for 'Black and Blue' or 'Cabo Wabo' or 'AFU'.

    Ditto.

One of the definite high points to the Hagar years. A perfectly crafted heavy ballad.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Bought OU812 the day it came out, on my way home from school, last week of high school, senior year. I remember popping the tape in and the second song up was WIL. I went to school the next day and told everybody it was going to be a big hit.

It hasn't aged well for me though.

Odd, for me it is one of the few songs on the album that don't sound dated. Of course the keys will make it sound a little like a product of the eighties. But to me this song has some balls to its production, which much if not most of OU812 sorely lacked.

In my top three VH songs ever. Totally ADORE it. If I ever (ha!) get married again, this one is getting played - BIG TIME!!!

In fact, it was the first song by them that I heard, sat up and of which I took real notice.

Wonderful melody, beautifully interwoven keyboards and guitar, superb 'two-part' vocal arrangement, gorgeous guitar solo, understated yet heart-pumping bassline, fantastic sing-along tune - what's NOT to like???

And, come on, who can NOT admire a man who wears an orange matador suit with shoulder-pads the size of wheelbarrows?

My first impressions was I liked it. I liked it a lot. I like pretty much every ballad or power ballad Sam has done. Solo, VH and the Foot.

You know, some people really criticise Sam's lyrics - but, for me, there was NEVER a truer word spoken than:

How do I know when it's love?
    I can't tell you - but it lasts forever;

How does it feel when it's love?
It's just something you feel together.

    Simple but perfect.

I was not a big fan of the song when it came out, but I love it now. Love the video too.

Perfect guitar solo imo. Very Clapton-like. I never considered this a ballad though. It's a rocker imo- especially live, they rocked it out even more
Wolfie is not Mike, but he's more than ok.
Mike is gone, but not forgotten. They played some amazing shows from 2007-2015; some people are in denial about it.

with the exception of Right Now and Don't tell me what love can do, I found all the Hagar stuff did not stand up to the test of time. I never listen to any of it now. Still love VH1, 2, etc. all the way to 84.

Now that I think of it, I never hear the Hagar stuff on the radio either, so I guess I am not alone.
