    Default ADKOT CD vs Vinyl

Contemplating getting the Vinyl edition. I would like to hear the opinions on the CD vs Vinyl version regarding sound quality.

Don'cha get the CD with the vinyl? Suits my greedy ass...

But there's something about the more limited dynamic range that warms vinyl up a bit, generally, compared to CDs - that, and the actual physical contact between groove and bumping stylus, that some folks just seem to find richer.

I'm more a digital man myself, but I get where the vinyl folks is coming from...

Ross, that is awesome to hear that! I really appreciate input directly from the source! Did not expect that. It will be my first purchase now.

    Cheers!

No turntable for me either, but holy crap what a reason to buy one right now!!

5150who- it can get pretty technical if you googled it, but usually Vinyl has a more warm quality. I don't know how else to explain it other than it contains the dynamics that are most pleasing to our ears and reflects the original recording.

Tell us more, sir! You're selling me on the vinyl which I was not planning on buying simply because of the cost, but... I'm listening now.

Mp3 and other formats are compressed and so the file becomes smaller the more compressed it is. Thus you lose quality of sound. I work with wave files a lot and they tend to be the highest quality file. You can have hq mp3's as well, it really just depends on how much you compress.

CD's are essentially wave quality. Many people feel it is still a departure from the quality of vinyl.

Vinyl is supposedly the better sounding format for many people. But if the record gets scratched you are SOL. And everyone loves the sound of dust on the needle.

Me too. I bought the vinyl, but from a collector's standpoint. Seriously, what's the difference?

Directly from the horse's mouth! Great to have you here, Ross. Stick around, it's a fun place! ;-)
BTW, you did a great job making a compromis capturing the bands live energy, the classic VH sound and at the same time make them sound modern!

    Greetings from Germany!

I'm at the Live Nation Store check out page - even with the cheapest delivery option, plus tax it's almost $70 for this album. I've already spent $160 for a concert ticket... somebody please explain why I should pay that much to buy this album on vinyl.

    Default CD vs Vinyl...

I'm a complete novice on this subject, but i was wondering...

If a CD was made digitally, (as opposed to old school analog tape) is their any point to making a vinyl pressing? Can you get the real vinyl sound from a Digital source?

    Joe
