    Default Van Halen Archives

I'm sure it's been discussed here before, but is there any chance at all that with all the new fan friendliness being shown by the band that one day we'll get some archival releases. Several artists (Allman Brothers Band, Grateful Dead, Johnny Winter, UFO, Dio and others) have released old concert albums and videos over the years. I know Van Halen have always been protective of their live shows and that has caused us to have only 2 live DVD's and one album release, but I'd love to see and hear some old shows in top quality with an official release.

With the Van Halen promotion machine in full effect now, any chance after the tour they put out some vintage old material with an official release? Or am I just asking for too much?

NO, you are not asking too much.

But at least we got a new album coming out in less than a week

I doubt that VH is going to release anything that includes Mike.

Just like they wouldn't release any DLR stuff while Sam was in the band.

That's just an amazing level of ______ (fill in the blank). Even the Allman Brothers archival releases included Dickey Betts, who the remaining members of the band have been at war with for over a decade after they fired him via fax.

    Surprised?

How about those CVH live shows they released after Sam joined......

How about Dave's picture inside the BOBW cover..........

How about BOBW including live versions of CVH--with Sam singing....

How about the web site fiasco with Mike's pictures on the album covers...

How about no Sam or Mike in the Guitar Hero game....

    When you're out, you're out.

Still, that was yesterday, I want to enjoy today.

Yes. A "How the West was Won" (Led Zep) equivalent would be awesome. I'd love to see not only old shows and stuff, but all that stuff they have sitting in the vaults. Isn't there supposed to be several albums worth of material? I'm sure there are all kinds of songs, outtakes, jam sessions, etc that would blow our minds if only we could hear them.

I loved the Beatles Anthology series because it was all alternate versions, unreleased stuff, etc. A real insight as to their recording and songwriting process. A similar VH Anthology is something I'd pay a great deal of money for, just like I did for the Beatles.

I doubt they'd do anything now because the nostalgia might lead to more chants of "bring back Mikey" and the band obviously does not want to risk opening up that can of worms.

good points already made about the unlikely release of old shows with Mike.... i'm sure a new tour dvd/cd will be in the works for xmas 2012 or maybe 2013. but old live stuff would be great IF it happened.
