Default David Lee Roth Story from 1999

I was at a apartment complex pool party in the summer of 1999 and the local radio station 93.3 the Planet was there... making it a party. During all the excitement, The Planet people were giving away 2 tickets to go see Bad Company with David Lee Roth opening the show. You had to guess what title of the song they played...thank God i was a huge VH fan because they played "Loss of Control" and you could have heard a pin drop...everyone was stumped. I yelled out the title and won the tickets

bare with me it gets better...

I got to the show with my musician friend Marty and we had purchased some (stay frosty) beers and took our 3rd row seats. The beautiful (then) morning DJ Kimberly Kelly for The Planet (looks exactly like Shania Twain) sat right beside me and introduced herself. We chatted about music and stuff in Downtown Greenville SC. The show started with DLR and Dave was fucking loud as hell...louder than Bad Company. There were 2 beautiful girls in front of me and Marty and they were hammered. Me Marty and Kimberly were laughing at them and enjoying the show. Well they turned around to me and Marty half way through the show and started flashing us and acting like strippers....hell maybe they were. I told marty and Kimberly that i got free tickets, cold beer, sitting beside one of the hottest DJs around, being flashed by 2 beautiful girls, listening to the great DLR ...it don't get no better than this!!

DLR finished the show and Bad Company started playing ...we watched about 3 songs and Kimberly asked if we would like to meet DLR? (is a pig's pussy pork?) HELL YEAH

We all went back stage and there was about 15 people around Dave asking stupid VH questions and i could tell he was annoyed by all. Kimberly got him our way and i was calm and cool and was not going to lose my cookies like the idiots around him asking stupid Eddie questions

I asked him about the rock climbing footage in the just like paradise video. Bingo.. relief...we have his attention.

He really liked Kimberly and man he talked a mile a minute about all that and how difficult it was shooting all that. Dave is very worldly and intelligent guy ...he was very interesting and fun to talk to. I told him about a local restaurant in town called John Paul's Armadillo Oil Company and the very rich owner that went on Safari trips every year hunting large animals...he one time paid 275,000 to kill a tiger... a lot of the animals he has killed were stuffed and displayed all around the restaurant, Dave was amazed by this and wanted to know where the restaurant was....he also said lets go after the show. I shook his hand and thanked him for the 1980 World tour in Asheville Civic Center, NC and getting me layed on the way home by a cheerleader from my high school that i took to the show. We all laughed about it.

We talked a little more and he was going to go change so we went back out and finished watching Bad Company. Kimberly had to go do something with the station so we waited for her...we went backstage and Dave was gone...bummed but it was fun thinking i was going to drink with DLR I wished it could have happened

Meanwhile Dave's holding court with John Paul and the strippers from the show at the restaurant wondering why those guys haven't brought Kimberly there yet, booz de bop. That's life!

WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!
