Fair Warning is the perfect hard rock record. All four boys are full on point, Ted’s in the booth tweaking the right stuff, Dave’s vox and lyrics are the best they’d ever been or ever would be, Ed hit his absolute zero zenith with tone and chops, Mike and Al’s rhythm never more synched.

If they’re ever gonna do the flavor du jour and do an homage tour and play a whole album start to finish like a lotta bands are doing these days...this black velvet motherfucker is the one to showcase to the unwashed masses.

The 40th anniversary of ‘Warning is only 2 years away. Dave, Ed, and Mike will all be 66, Al will be 67. Could be done.

Another classic Alex intro. Overall I'd say FW does have the best production, but Al's kick drum is just too soft in the mix IMO.

I still say the best produced studio tracks of VH's career are MWM and CGTSNM. Just stellar, warm, heavy, crisp and clear in your face production.

They should have had Glen Ballard produce ADKOT.

Did you go to either of the RHRN shows at the Pac Amp in ‘93?

Yes, I did. I saw them several times from 1991-1993. They really milked that album.

    Yep, and Erwin Musper engineering.

Oddly, Ballard did produce the 2004 tracks, however I'm pretty sure Ed was in full blown clouded control freak mode, so it wouldnt have mattered who was producing in all likelihood. But I think Ballard and Musper wouldve made the most of the ADKOT tracks.

I think I’ve discovered an unusual memory lapse. I was going through my ticket stub album last week, putting some new stubs in, and I was perusing the VH pages for the first time in a while. I have stubs from every show I’ve attended since ‘81 except for RHRN in ‘93. I’ve always presumed it was in there, I uniformly stash my stubs and tees and guitar picks and drum sticks and whatever else I bring home the morning after any show. It’s interesting because I have a shirt from that tour...the black rainbow tye dye globe one...as well as, I thought, a fairly reliable memory of watching them play the Neil Young cover to close the show. But then I also have a vague recollection of my buddy and I deciding to skip that tour because we saw it as a mere extension of the FUCK tour and didn’t really want to see a FUCK heavy setlist again. But if I don’t have the ticket stub, there’s a real possibility I didn’t attend. So weird! How’d I get the shirt if I didn’t go? Did they play Rockin in the Free World on any other tour?

Only post millennium did I ever see more than one show per tour. We figured that was plenty. In 04 I saw 2, in 07 I saw 2, in 12 I saw 1, in 13 I saw 1, in 15 I saw 2.

Haha. So weird. I wish I could recall for sure, but I don’t.

I honestly can't remember the individual shows between 91 and 93, but I think I saw them at least 3 times. I know I saw both Vince Neil and Alice In Chains open for them.

I saw three shows on the F.U.C.K. tour and 2 on the LRHRN tour. All great shows. The setlists were better for the LRHRN tour. I loved the inclusion of Unchained and Rockin' in the Free World.

Those shows sort of all blur together for me. Hard to believer that 1993 was already 26 years ago …

Then you saw both tours. AIC opened the FUCK tour proper. Vince opened the RHRN tour.

Do you still have your UsFest ticket?

I just don't understand how I could lose a ticket. Never have. I'm not sure I went. The t shirt though. Fack.

1993 US Tour definitely had the best setlist of any Hagar era tour.
    Eddie Van Halen in 2012:

"ESQ: What are you going to do with all the material that you wrote with Sammy Hagar?

EVH: Oh, I hadn't thought about that. That's some great music. They're just on vacation, maybe. They're off to college and they're going their own way. Who knows?"

I just looked it up...I rarely look at web setlists, they can be inaccurate. I don't think so. Performance and WIL closer notwithstanding, I think '04 had the best Hagar era setlist.

Well...the best in terms of representing all LPs and EPs. I probably think the little OU812 tour had the best setlist, but that's cause I think OU812 is their best album.

And I'm no fan of a FUCK heavy setlist.
