May be an early call without hearing the whole album - but there's clearly a shitload here that doesn't just wither and blow away by comparison with Classic Van Halen, and that in itself is quite the accomplishment.
Classic Van Halen. In Pace Requiescant.

    Ask me on Feb 7th.
What once upon a time made Van Halen unique in the progression of metal and hard rock (besides Eddie’s prowess as a guitarist) was its sense of fun, its willingness to be not just over the top, but weird.

i'm not talking about longevity and classic vh sound here, i'm talking best musical effort put forth my individual members of the band

First, it's not even out yet.

Second, I don't think it will be. That bar is pretty high.

Ed was in a different zone during the original 6. He was majorly innovative. I still think he rocks, but it's not majorly innovative if at all anymore. He seems to play more eight note power chord songs rather than interesting fancy chord progressions and passing tones.

You gotta be kidding me, right?

Do you have the entire album?

Have you had years to ingest and actually fully interpret it?

I get the excitement around here, but this whole "greatest thing since sliced bread " stuff needs to calm down. It's in every thread. The euphoria of having new material to listen to and discuss is truly morphing a lot of reasonable minds here. I'm excited as well, but stop leaping off a cliff before the release date.

Or maybe I am too old now. Or, maybe you are being sarcastic and I just didn't pick it up.

I know Diver Down gets shit on here a lot, but damn, I will put those four original tunes on there up against anything they have done.

    Hang'em High - great
Little Guitars - perfect Van Halen song
    Secrets - great tune
The Full Bug - out ZZ Top'd ZZ Top with this one
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

DONATE TO THE LINKS YA CHEAP BASTARDS!!!!

The people around here make me chuckle. We're judging without even having the whole record yet. Just shows how hard-up vh fans have truly become.

I agree. DD has some super-strong tracks that are definitive VH.

I think I'd put it ahead of VH3, OU812, 1984 and Diver Down as of now. When I hear the rest, it has the chance to climb higher, especially since we haven't even heard half of the solos yet, which is some of the best stuff to me. I don't think it could ever top VH1, FW and 5150, at least for me.
Honey, baby, my heart's aflame. I'm all f'd up, and you to blame.

I'll give you Al, but there is no way Ed's playing on this album will top VH1, VH2, and FW. What he did on VH1 is mind blowing.
