You And Your Blues - Official Discussion Thread

Talk about this beast of a song here. Trying to make sure all the individual songs have their own threads. Might make for easier discussion.

That means put EVERYTHING about this song in here, like the lyrics, etc.

Based on the 1:30 clip, You and Your Blues if my fave, out of the gate, and that's saying something considering the awesomeness of the other tracks.

I love this song. Should've been the single. I could see this being used in movies, etc. It has such broad appeal. Those backing vocals...wow. So catchy. Everything flows so perfectly.

as soon as I heard that 1:30 iTunes clip, it just kinda brought up comparisons with a lot of the stuff on Chickenfoot III (All right, Different Devil) that is kind of pop/radio material.

again, this is just for me, but I feel like Sam kind of touted some maturity in the songwriting on Chickenfoot III, and when I listened You and Your Blues, I got that same sort of vibe, except I definitely like this a lot more. I imagined Ed and Dave listening to some to of those Chickenfoot song (and Sam kinda shit talking the new album) and were like "okay, fuck you, here's a kick ass song"

Again, this is all in my silly little head.
All in all, I have been blown away by all the stuff I've heard from this album.

Boggles my mind they didn't put this song or Blood & Fire out before Tattoo. Both songs are so far superior and every bit as commercial-sounding...if that's what they were going for.

This is the song that really seals the deal for me. Has an epic pre chorus and chorus in the true VH style. The pre-chorus is very reminiscent of "handle me with care" by the Travelling Wilburys. An absolute foot tapper, very nice tasty chords and tones, great lyrics and all Ron's vocals. Roth is straining in this but solo fits.

They might be wanting to build up to them? I have no idea.

Maybe they want to keep expectations low, and then blow everyone away. Under-promise and over-deliver?

I've really been digging all of the new tracks.

I think it will be the song that generates the most critical acclaim from the CD. I'm just hearing a very good and well-crafted song here, whereas the others could possibly be panned for being "rehashed" or too heavy or whatever. There's no solo in the 90 sec. clip, so maybe he throws a "Push Comes to Shove" masterpiece in there and sends it over the top.

Not that most critics would recognize genius when they hear it, but I'm just sayin'...
We train dogs for cattle and sheep herding. They're very different. Sheep are a lot like supermodels - they bunch together, they rattle very easily. Cattle are like drunks at a hockey game - two will want to fight: "Who are you and what's with your badge?"

Two of them will be like: "Leave them alone, let's go see the game." Another one is lost: "Where'd you guys go?" The dog has to deal with all of that. You work them off a whistle. It's the original video game.

Van Halen reminded us last night of why we loved them in the first place. They helped us to get past all the bullshit around us and remind us to have a little fucking fun in the midst of it all. - Reckless Fable

Fuck if it weren't for VH nuts like us, the stupid critics wouldn't even know which songs were the remakes.
