Default Anyone notice this about the new songs?

So I picked up Blood & Fire along with The Trouble with Never from Amazon UK (thanks Dointime for posting instructions) and love them both.

One thing I noticed yesterday as I have them on every possible piece of equipment I play music on in my life...when you play either song on Windows Media Player it shows the cover of ADKOT along with the song title; except every so often it switches and states "Composer: David Lee Roth."

    Kind of interesting isn't it?
    It's 5150 time!

I'm guessing DLR had more to do with this record than anyone. Eddie probably had music to work with and Dave wrote most of it with Shanks. I think Dave is the person who wanted to do this more than anyone. He is the person who had something to prove here.

If you right-click the file and click properties, what is listed under the Details Tab for composer?

    I agree with this.

Don't get me wrong, but Dave is not the musician who works and tweeks out songs, riffs, and the bunch. Melody to sing on, and some basic blues-chords on the guitar - sure. But taking bits that Eddie has lying around and piecing things together? - not enough musician and instrumentalist in him IMO.

Many times, it is because the composers are listed alphabetically by last name. All the old VH songs used to be Anthony, Roth, VanHalen, VanHalen.

Windows Media Player might only be showing the first composer, as many songs only have one.

I think it really is that simple.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Yeah, my old CD rips only list Alex Van Halen as the composer.

I did check the Amazon Tattoo mp3 download on another PC and DLR is the only one listed as composer. However, I don't think it necessarily means anything more than META data.

Apart from Ripley, er I mean "Blood and Fire," most of the music was written by the whole band in the 70s, including Mike, no?

    Huh?

The credits are meta-data embedded in the file, who cares what it says? Like someone said, different media players screw them up, or just display the first name, or whatever, all the time.

Check the album itself for the proper songwriting credits.

So you said something in the post that kinda make me think....

Since the songs came from the original band and old demos or songs played live, etc. do you think Mike has any claim to any of the tunes that he might have been a part of in the composing of them?
Imagine a world without Eddie Van Halen.

"From the moment David Lee Roth appeared at the top of a giant runway that snaked through the Oklahoma City Ford Center audience Tuesday night, he wore the one thing that told every Van Halen fan that everything was right with the world. It was a maniacal Cheshire cat smile announcing happiness and enthusiasm that cannot be faked. Not only was the old band back together, it was thriving."

    No.

You have to significantly contribute structure of the song (key, chord changes, melody) or lyrics to deserve a songwriting credit. Many bands split it anyways as part of "hey it takes all of us to do this" one for all-all for one, but since the songs were never published back when they were splitting everything four ways, no, Mike won't get anything. Mike is and never has been a song writer or arranger. I am sure he had ideas, but from everything the band has ever said, all members, he never came in and presented his own songs to the rest of the band.

And he even said in a recent online chat posted somewhere in the CF forum that he won't even try to get some coin out of it, he doesn't care.

But at least we all know the truth.....shhhhh, but don't tell Eddie
    AKA Drewbacca

Van Halen has this cult/religious following thing going on, wherein music journalists (who are usually clueless) and genuine fans and musicians (who should know better) respect this band musically. The reality is far different...

First, every record this band has done since "Fair Warning" is complete crapp. Given that "Fair Warning" was released in April of 1981, that is 23 years of junk now boys........One of the BEST Post EVER!!!!

Yeah, sure Ed fucked over Mike. Like you even know what really happened? Nobody but the band or friends knows

And fact is Mikey needed Eddie, not the other way around. Sad but true. Eddie is the talent. Eddie writes the music with David..

Mikey is a rich man because of Eddie And David. Shit happens and he's not part of it.

Why does this BS always come up? And, the whole new album isn't all older material. It seems that about half is.

Mike won't and shouldn't get anything for this VH music.
