Default Van Halen always recycled songs... and I'm cool with that

Hi there folks greetings from Italy!!!

here's a list of the songs that van halen recycled throughout the years (or used bits and pieces from other songs)

You are no good (the intro from Down in flames)
Somebody get me a doctor (re-arranged from the Gene Simmons record)
Beatiful girls (Bring on the girls and look above)
Fools (played during the club days in a different arrangement)
In a simple rhyme (look above))
Romeo Delight (chorus from Get the Show on the road)
Mean Street (Voodoo Queen/She's the Woman)
Where have all the good... (at the end you can hear the ending of Young and Wild)
    Hang 'em High (Last Night)
House of Pain (a demo song re-worked)
    Jump (a 1980 demo)
I Want some action, the 5150 left-over (from twist the knife wrote for S. Lukather)
    Dirty Water Dog (look above)
Top of the world (the ending of Jump)
Take me back (the intro form No more waiting)
    maybe I forgot something....

I'm totally cool with that... this thread is just for those out there that are complaining
about the recycled re-worked song form the new upcoming album.......

    Ciao!

Before this thread gets closed, I'll agree with you my friend. I just want cool sounding Van Halen music. I don't really care about the history of the arrangements and riffs.

Oh yeah, there are plenty more.

Just on the top of my head:

It's about time, Learning to see and the Instrumental Rise were Leftovers from the second Gary record. Can't get the stuff no more was a leftover from Balance, just like Once was. Right now and AFU were also written for the Wildlife soundtrack. Big trouble almost ended up rerecorded on Diver down but was pulled in favour of the covers. Gee, I bet there are many, many more. But it's too early for me.

Couldn't edit my post anymore. Sorry, so again, this time in form of a list. ;-)

It's about time (leftover from the second Gary record)
Learning to see (leftover from the second Gary record)
Instrumental "Rise" (leftover from the second Gary record)
Can't get the stuff no more (leftover from Balance)
    Once (leftover from Balance)
Right now (written for the Wildlife soundtrack)
AFU (written for the Wildlife soundtrack)
Big trouble (was rerecorded for Diver Down and almost made it, but was pulled in favour of the covers)
That's why I love you (was worked on with Dave in 96 and called "Blood from a Rock")
Year to the day (was the dubious "Between us two" Sam and Ed wrote in 96, Sam claimed to be VHs Stairwas to heaven)

Maybe we can merge them all into one big list? Then everytime someone is crying about the use of old songs we can copy that list as an answer. Bam, in your face!

It's so true...and frankly Eddie wrote all the music; it's HIS music; so whenever HE ends up using it does not really matter.

As long as we keep getting solos in songs like Blood And Fire they can reuse songs all they want.
    Hit the ground running...

We came through blood and fire...

"I aim to misbehave." - Captain Malcolm Reynolds: Firefly

Proud fan of BOTH major eras of Van Halen. Yes, we do exist.

"Men never commit evil so fully and joyfuly as when they do it for religious convictions"-- Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)

The Sass Jordan version of Van Halen was the best...

It's the curse of being a bootleg collector. You're going to hear other ideas and songs that weren't meant to be released and once they are released, some people feel cheated. I actually like when they do this and change things up. I never heard the original demos until the early 90s and when I heard all of that music the way it was originally written and recorded after hearing the officially released versions, I loved it.

It's the same argument I've had with people who say they want a boxed set of all the demos. Yeah, it would be awesome to have master copies of those songs, but we (collectors) won't get the same "thrill" out of them that the general music buying public would get, because, for the most part, we'll know everything that will be in the set. We would just end up paying big bucks for an upgraded version of everything we paid big bucks to attain in the 80s and 90s. Of course, I'd buy it in a heartbeat to have it in the collection.

Reworked or not, a good song is a good song.
