    Default Wolf's Playing

Seems everyone agrees Wolf has improved his playing dramatically. Question is, is he playing parts he created or playing bass parts Dad or someone else wrote? Personally, I think he has his Dads drive to be great, practiced relentlessly and wrote the bass parts we have heard to date.

    Thoughts?

Ed and Al are a part of that rare breed of musicians who lived and breathed their art 24/7. Hours and hours of practice, day after day, wanting NOTHING else to do with their lives but music. In their minds they had no other options. The signature sounds they are known for are legendary and bear witness to their dedication. I don't get that same dedication or vibe from WVH. Nothing I have ever seen or read about him says that he is on that same path.

He has talent for sure and has gotten better. I'm impressed. He probably did write some of his own lines but rehearsing the same set of songs until you know them in your sleep and playing off the cuff are two different things. I would like to see and hear him outside of the confines of VH to really gauge if he truly has his fathers gift.

Well the only new songs we've heard are both from old demos. She's The Woman is basically a complete lift from the 76 demo except for the newer bridge...where he's basically doubling Ed's riff (I think) and Tattoo is a reworking from an old demo. Basically we just don't really have enough to go on do we? But he did sound fantastic at the Cafe Wha gig...

Regardless of the originator of the bass parts, Wolf's bass playing is pretty hot, despite the fact that he seems to play exclusively with a pick (I'm a finger-bass snob...picks are for guitar and mining, but occasionally for bass). I'm sure he was coached to some extent - perhaps minor - by his father, but the fact of the matter is that the kid has positive control of that bass and is in command of those four strings.

Hmmm, not sure that this is entirely accurate, Chris.

Ed absolutely wanted to do nothing else with his time. He'd skive school and social gatherings just to sit on his bed with his Shlitz (sp?), cigs and guitar.

Al, on the other hand, (according to both brothers), was always out partying, returning at 5am, (having had his wicked way with some bird or other), to find Ed exactly where he'd left him - sitting on his bed with guitar in hand.

I'd agree though that Wolf is bound to have improved (surely he'll be "finger-pickin' good" by now?) - although, it's said that the drums are his instrument of choice.

It's a pull off on the low E string that surprisingly Wolf suggested to dad during recording.

If he is indeed part of the adhesive that seems to be seen in a more sober eddie then i give him props for that. at this point we couldn't ask for anymore, take while their giving it considering their age and all. so i would say wolfies playing is good enough. and maybe we will get an even more solid album in the not so distant future out of these guys yet.

I think this site should be shut down until the CD comes out, only to stop these retarded threads popping up every 5 minutes...
