Default Sammy praises Kenny in new "Classic rock"...

I maybe over-reacting, but I found this comment by Sammy about Kenny a little strange. He states "Its a tough statement to make, but we play the songs better with Kenny than we do with Chad. Not because hes a better drummer than chad, but because hes less reckless and crazy".
If Chad reads the interview, i'm sure he'd have some feelings on this statement. Either hes thick-skinned or not.
What is understood need not be discussed

"Dont disturb my paradise. I've asked you once. I've asked you nice" - "SERIOUS JU JU"

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977

I understand the need for Sam to compliment Kenny and make him feel like a part of the CF family but why say something that would discredit Chad? For as successful a business man and self-promoter Sammy may be, he sure knows how to shit on people publicly. Mike doesn't even drink around him anymore because he's afraid if he gets drunk and does something stupid that Sammy will write about it in another book.

I think there might be a difference between getting drunk and doing something stupid and being stupid and drunk for 40 years.

That being said, I don't get this comment either.

A little strange yes, but innocent enough I suspect. What I think he was trying to say (very awkwardly) was that Kenny is an excellent drummer and VERY solid in the sense that he plays it the same every night and very close to the record, whereas Chad will muck with it a bit more in a live performance.

Both these types of styles have their advantages, but what Sam is alluding to here is the fact that the band as a whole will find it easier to lock into the groove with a drummer who is consistently playing it the same way every night.

In this instance it is Sammy just getting caught up in all his own excitement in an effort to praise Kenny. I'm sure he meant no sleight on Chad.

For what it's worth, as a drummer I prefer Kenny to Chad.

That's why I really only like audio or video interviews, the print stuff can be very misleading. Although with technology today, I guess they can screw with audio a lot as well.

Yes, when I read the interview this is how I took it. I didn't take it as a slight to Chad. He even said Chad doesn't ever play anything that's not great. But he's very loose and it makes them more of a jam band.

I'm sorry but that's a dumb statement to make. The band sounded phenomenal on the first tour. Where the hell is he going with this??

Sam has no idea how to pay someone a compliment because it always comes at the expense of someone else. Sometimes I really don't get this guy at all.

Well said. This is how I read it too. No controversy here.

Sam is selling a tour. Chad has an arena gig going. No one is hurt by mere puffery.
