Default Anybody else finding this release a tad anti-climactic?

I dunno, maybe its just me but I feel like I should be a bit more excited for this release than I am. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it but something feels different. I don't wanna admit it but I think these last 14 years have done a number on me as a fan. It's almost like it's not that big of a deal. Any of you guys feel the same?

This is my first Van Halen album as a fan. I was 13 when III came out and it flew right under my radar.

I can't be more excited than this. Everything I wanted as a fan (short of wishful thinking) is coming to fruition.

Even as they were recording this very album and mixing it down, I was totally skeptical that it would ever see the light of day.

I don't care about album sales, chart rankings, whether VH set the world alight or what Sammy or anyone else short of a handful of linkers here have to say - I'm just so grateful to get to experience this.

Aw, man! That's what it's all about! I love reading a response like that. I think the world is less interested in Van Halen in general these days than they've ever been. This is the first real "Post-MTV" release VH has ever done, and in a way, it's the first release they've done since the music industry was eroded away by the Internet, so their hype-machine simply doesn't have the funds it used to have, and due to the long hiatus, I think the general populous have lost interest and they're just not the relevant rock stars they used to be.

But, on the other hand, there are still fans like us out there who will go ape shit any time Eddie pulls out a guitar. Yes, Van Halen 3 was a pretty big mess... but even I bothered to learn that crazy bridge riff from Without You on guitar, and saw the band live twice on that tour. We're the die hard fans and we're in love with these guys, for better or worse. So, yeah... I think the majority of us are pretty pumped.

I'm more CURIOUS than excited to hear what they've come up with. I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna like alot of the songs on the new album too. I'll always love this band and love talking about them but my fanboy days have long been over. I'm more excited about what the reactions are going to be here at the Links, about the album and tour, to be honest. This place is going to be a riot.

As excited as I have been since Extreme dropped their most recent cd in 2008. Otherwise, it's been since the release of vhiii that I've been as excited for any cd. Fortunately I'm positive this cd will be way better than vhiii and I truthfully enjoyed it for what it was...an Eddie solo project with Gary cherone singing. Many criticisms (production and the like), but there is some good creative stuff there that i found appealing enough to admit i liked it. I echo all the sentiment out there that I'm as excited like I used to get when I was a teenager going to the music store to get new music from my favorite band. Since tattoo dropped, I've been in constant vh mode...it's all I've been listening too on my ipod, in the car, my home system and I've been just ripping thru vh vids on YouTube as if they were gonna remove all vh content tomorrow and never bring it back.

Well the Wha? gig was pretty monumental. I became beyond fired up after it and it continued for the release of tattoo and the video. Though I still check here with anticipation and interest the total excitement has died down some. A little breather. lol I expect to be excessively re excited as the songs leak, or the album is released and of course peaking when walking in to see them live.
After all these years you can only take so much at once. Gotta pace yourself. lol
